* Example Contract dates:

• September 6, 2022 –August 19, 2023 (50 Week Contract);
• September 19, 2022 –September 2, 2023 (50 Week Contract);

 

*Contract start and end dates are flexible and rotate on a bi-weekly schedule  

1700 Hours Contract - Minimum of 36 hours/week

Compensation: Living Allowance Total: $ 25,500 ($1,020 -taxes every 2 weeks over 50 weeks) + Education Award: $ 6,495.00*

Description: AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs, made up of three primary programs that each take a different approach to improving lives and fostering civic engagement. Members commit their time to address critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters, and more. In return, members receive a modest living allowance and an educational award that can be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary educational institutions or qualified student loans. Members who are 55+ years of age can transfer award to child or grandchild.

The Teen Engagement Specialist will serve alongside the Teen Empowerment Coordinator and the AmeriCorps Academic Advocate at the Multicultural Family Center to provide teenaged youth in the Dubuque community with community connections, healthy opportunities and engaging activities during the school year and summer months. This position will be responsible for program development, implementation and evaluation, and outreach to the community youth populations.

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Collaborate with the Site Supervisor to provide programming and outreach students and families within the Dubuque community; focused on providing a diverse, inclusive and equitable, nurturing and safe environment for community youth.
•Develop program curricula focused around community engagement, healthy choices, and positive social skill development.
•Cooperate closely with AmeriCorps members serving at Mentor Dubuque and the Carnegie-Stout Public Library to create and develop collaboration on teen-focused programming between the program partners.
•Collaborate closely with the Carnegie Stout Public Library's AmeriCorps Member to create and implement 'Teen Night' programming through out the school year and summer months.
•Coach teens on appropriate behaviors, conflict management and de-escalation practices.
•Document and maintain impact on area youth who participate in programming.
•Carry out developmental activities that promote skill building in the following areas: mental health, community connection, diversity, equity, inclusion, workforce development.
•Support at-risk youth during activities, programs and events through positive adult interactions, academic engagement, recreational activities and encouraging peer engagement.
•Act as a role model exhibiting appropriate behavior including civic responsibility, community action, and relationship building.
•Immediately report harmful youth behavior to appropriate department and program officials.
•Maintain and uphold confidentiality practices and policies.
•Attend all AmeriCorps trainings and service projects.
•The program may require the member to engage in other allowable activities that are not specifically outlined in the position description, but that support the AmeriCorps program design and which help the program meet its goals. In no circumstance will members be asked to perform prohibited activities outlined in the Member Service Agreement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2.Applicant must pass three-part Criminal History Background Check because of reoccurring access to vulnerable populations.
3.Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident or U.S. National to serve with AmeriCorps Programs.
4.Must be competent in working with at-risk youth, teenaged youth, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
5.Applicant must have reliable transportation.
6.Applicant must be creative, energetic, dependable and a self-starter.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
•Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion.
•Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
•Sensitivity to the needs of traditionally marginalized communities.
•Ability to work with software programs.
•Ability to maintain and prepare reports.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across cultural differences;
•Desire to work with all cultures (ages, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, gender, sexual orientation, etc.)
•Demonstrated ability to follow a management philosophy that is input-oriented and values equity, problem solving and development of partnerships.
•Desire to be part of an organization that values service, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and team work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Walk and carry materials up and down steps
•Stand and walk for extended periods of time
•Lift 30 pounds
•Bend, squat and kneel

SERVICE SCHEDULE:

Service activities will take place predominately at Multicultural Family Center. The AmeriCorps Member must be able to serve from 12 PM – 8 PM, Monday through Friday and 8 AM – 12 PM on Saturdays. Members may be asked to serve at special events and activities within the grant partnerships that may be outside of the member's normal service hours. Members are required to attend the monthly training offered to all AmeriCorps Members within the AmeriCorps Partners in Program as well as the National Days of Service. Site Supervisors will plan a quarterly service schedule in calendar format in which both the member and site supervisor will agree and adhere to. This schedule is meant to outline how the member will successfully get to the allotted hours within the term limits.

Education award may be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary educational institutions or qualified student loans. Members who are 55+ years of age can transfer award to child or grandchild under specific conditions.
