Description:
POSITION PURPOSE:
This position supports all laboratory information systems for Clinton, or Dubuque, or regionally to include Cerner Path Net, Harvest Orchard, Epic Beaker and Well Sky (transfusion medicine).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Capable of coordinating instrument interfacing with LIS.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of lab order placement from eClinical Works and Power Chart.
3. Maintains all reference testing interfaces with reference labs, notably Quest Diagnostics.
4. Provides LIS training for new lab colleagues.
5. Manages the lab colleague User access and password reset.
6. Willing to become an EPIC Super User and travel as lab support for Trinity Health go-lives.
7. Will be the project manager for all system upgrades to include front line staff application communication in functionality changes.
8. Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory testing and concepts.
9. Actively participates and drives process changes with inception of EPIC modules (General Lab, Legacy Lab, Anatomic Pathology, Microbiology and Transfusion Medicine). Each of these Epic teams will require 25% of the LIS coordinator time.
10. Manage day to day changes such as report distribution and normal range adjustments. As providers are added into system, this includes proper fax number management or printer selections.
11. Capable of following the College of American Pathology LIS checklist standards. These standards will need documentation of compliance.
12. Middleware knowledge for the Trinity Health vendor chosen product called Medicity.
13. Instrument vendor knowledge of middleware Remisol (Beckman Coulter), to be used as instrument auto-verification and quality control repository.
14. Capable of setting up auto-verification resulting.
15. Capable of creating reflex rules for laboratory reflex testing ie: urinalysis reflex to culture, PSA reflex to PSA Free etc.
16. Can run reports or create reports from the LIS to support Quality Assurance metrics such as turn-around times, specimen rejection, duplicate testing and other requests made by the lab director.
17. Demonstrates tact diplomacy and compassion at all times.
18. Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences and in-services.
19. Is responsible for creating an environment of organizational learning about patient safety and medical/health care error reduction, supports sharing of knowledge and fosters behavioral changes to improve patient safety.
20. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Mercy standards.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a patient care environment. Includes exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous waste and exposure to conditions that could be considered disagreeable to sight, touch, sound, smell, and taste. Intense concentration is necessary to complete the responsibilities of the position. (See Physical Demands Worksheet).

MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Associate degree in a medical or business-related field preferred.
3. Two to three years billing or application skills and reconciliation experience preferred.
4. Must accurately type 40 wpm and have basic knowledge of medical terminology and office equipment.
5. Experience with database, Word, and Excel software programs.
6. Must have strong oral and written communication abilities and ability to maintain calm professional manner in stressful situation.
7. Accuracy and attention to detail required.
8. Able to use independent judgment, self-motivated, organized and able to work independently.
9. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
10. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
