JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective: The Paralegal will assist attorney(s) by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation and review; interviewing clients and witnesses; research, investigations, and fact checking; and trial preparation.
Education: Paralegal Certification

Detail Job-Related Functions:
A. Essential functions
1. Telephone communication skills in dealing with clients and other offices, scheduling and confirming meetings and appointments. Requires the ability to use telephone equipment and deal with people in a pleasant and professional manner.
2. Preparation of daily day card of time. Requires accuracy and ability to write professionally and consistently with standard practices and maintain detailed, accurate, legible, written description of daily work activities.
3. Business Related
a) Review, summarize and index medical records, financial records, and other data. Requires organizational ability, math skills, and the ability to think things through logically.
b) Estates administration work including but not limited to Federal estate tax returns, trusts, real estate documentation, stock valuations and financial matters. Requires knowledge of applicable statutes and court rules, as well as communication skills and organizational ability.
c) Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and others through written correspondence, telephone and personal meetings. Requires communication skills and the ability to work with people in a pleasant and professional manner.
d) Draft documents including, but not limited to, discovery requests, discovery responses, document requests, claim summaries, demand packets, and pleadings. Requires knowledge of applicable court rules and statutes, and writing skills.
e) Assistance in trust litigation in seeking termination of trusts, invoking the Court' jurisdiction, requesting the Court' interpretation of trusts, etc. Requires the ability to draft pleadings, to do research regarding the remedy being sought by the petition and the authority to make such a request.
f) Preparation of appropriate collection documents and petitions for filing with the court and service of suit on defendant. Docket and follow-up on deadlines and succeeding procedures including judgment, summary judgment and garnishment. Requires ability to complete documents thoroughly and organizational ability to meet docket deadlines.
g) Prepare adoption pleadings, initiate contact with and obtain signatures from clients, necessary agencies and/or persons. Requires ability to complete documents and work with various types of people.
4. Litigation Related
a) Review, summarize and index medical records and other data. Requires organizational ability and ability to think things through logically.
b) Use of the standard docket control methods in scheduling various events and deadlines. Requires organizational ability.
c) Meet with clients to review and formulate answers to interrogatories and production of documents requested, claim summaries, demand packets, pleadings and discovery requests. Requires ability to think logically and deal with people in a pleasant and professional manner.
d) Obtain, review and summarize depositions. Requires the ability to be concise and thorough.
e) Prepare and arrange service of subpoenas. Requires personal transportation or ability to contact appropriate office for service.
f) Obtain, prepare and index exhibits for trial and assist at trial. Requires organizational ability and the ability to travel and stay overnight when necessary.
g) Investigate accidents, personal injury claims, workersΓÇÖ compensation injuries, etc. Requires analytical ability and the ability to interact with people effectively.
h) Arrange depositions and independent medical examinations. Requires organizational ability and the ability to handle people in a pleasant and professional manner.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners.
Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary role. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
Days and hours of the office are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nights and weekends as needed for the position, particularly during trials, closings etc.
Required Qualifications:
1. Paralegal Preferred
2. Highschool Diploma
3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
