Description:
The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation therapy planning team, familiar with the physical and geometric characteristics of radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly employed with the training and expertise necessary to measure and generate radiation dose distributions and calculations under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Adheres to the principles of caring and expected behaviors outlined in MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center's Model of Caring and Trinity Health's Code of Conduct, fostering a climate where all customers are treated in a manner consistent with MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center's Mission and Values. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations. Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of conduct as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior. Must be able to understand the technical aspects of radiation oncology and physics to derive computerized treatment plans and communicate these aspects to the Radiation Oncologist for plan approval and to the Radiation Therapists for plan implementation. Must possess good communication and organizational skills. Must possess the sensitivity and understanding needed to work with cancer patients. Must possess strong mathematical skills and be able to visualize objects in 3-dimensional concepts to facilitate planning process. Must be able to work under pressure due to fluctuating workloads and deadlines. Responsible for accurately recording charges for services and materials used or delegating charges to be recorded. Responsible for the proper use and care of the radiation therapy equipment, simulating treatment equipment, and block set up (if applicable). Must observe safety precautions when handling patients during administration of radiation therapy treatment. Reports any safety hazards found throughout the health system. Must use appropriate protective devices necessary to shield patients. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

Requires professionalism in both dress and conduct on the job. Demonstrates an understanding of organizational dynamics and administrative procedures and protocols. Ability to function in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment and to cope with ambiguity, time constraints, and other daily stressors in an effective and appropriate manner. Demonstrates time management, prioritization and organizational skills including an ability and willingness to plan, organize and accomplish tasks accurately and in a timely manner to exercise sound judgment under pressure and to manage multiple and competing activities simultaneously. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must be able to work independently and productively in a fast-paced setting involving multi-task functions and projects. Ability to plan, organize and perform duties with minimal supervision and with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on the changing needs of the department and/or the organization.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
During an 8-hour day, an associate must be able to stand/walk for 3 hours and sit 5 hours. Job requires occasional (<10% of work time) squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, and balancing; frequent (21-50% of work time) bending, stooping, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, and pulling. Job requires the ability to frequently (21-50% of work time) lift and carry objects weighing approximately 11-24 pounds. Job requires exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity and may be exposed to infectious disease, hazardous waste, and chemicals. (This is for non-office roles) Must have fine motor and manual dexterity skills to grip and manipulate items and perform repetitive action such as computer entry. Requires visual acuity, the ability to speak and the ability to hear speech. Job requires high level of mental concentration to attain established deadlines. Working environments includes frequent interruptions. Must be able to travel on occasion to other worksites and training seminars. Must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES
(EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):
Education, Licensure and Certification
Bachelor of Science degree and have graduated from a formal medical dosimetry program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or foreign equivalent.
Must be on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (T), and Iowa Department of Public Health Permit to Practice.
CMD certification or eligibility is required. Successful completion of certification within 3 years of hire.
Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
Experience:
Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience in radiation therapy.
Two years of experience as a CMD preferred.
Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:
Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated experience and competency with Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of the departments. Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job.
