Job Overview
- Description
- Performs intermediate skilled work in the repair, maintenance, and cleaning of county buildings and equipment; performs related work as required.
Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent.
- Job Duties
- Includes, but not limited to:
- Gathers and disposes of refuse and recyclable materials.
- Vacuums wet/dry carpet/floors, sweeps, mops, strips, waxes floors, cleans carpets, and operates floor scrubber.
- Washes windows, windowsills and walls.
- Dusts and cleans chairs, tables, shelves, lockers, vents, ceiling tiles, woodwork and other furniture or equipment;
- Polishes furniture and stainless steel fixtures.
- Scrubs and cleans restrooms including toilets, urinals, mirrors, wash basins, countertops; Fills tissue, towels and soap dispensers.
- Monitor and inventory of cleaning supplies and some maintenance items;
- Performs rough and finished carpentry and mechanical maintenance work on facility buildings and equipment.
- Repairs desks, tables, chairs, and equipment;
- Performs minor roof and roof ventilation repairs.
- Repairs buildings, doors, windows and floors and performs basic locksmith functions.
- Prepares walls, building and grounds structures and equipment for repair.
- Builds forms, pours and finishes concrete.
- Replaces ceiling tiles as needed;
- Repairs/patches damaged walls as needed/touch up painting as necessary.
- Hangs TV/video screen mounts, dispensers, mirrors, pictures;
- Performs minor painting/staining projects including indoor/outdoor furniture/equipment.
- Performs electrical, plumbing and mechanical maintenance work in the repair and maintenance of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration equipment, electrical wiring and plumbing systems.
- May be required to pick up daily mail at the U.S. Post Office in the Historic Federal Building;
- Required to pick up, receives supplies and equipment; makes deliveries to offices and stock supplies in storage rooms;
- Setup tables, chairs, etc. for programs or special events;
- Read and interpret meters, gauges, and panel displays;
- Performs work off of a ladder or portable scaffolding.
- Performs snow removal, lawn care and grounds maintenance work.
- Maintains records, logs and prepares reports;
- Serves "on-call" for emergencies and snow removal.
- Performs and monitors quality assurance standards and protocols;
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain throughout duration of employment. A Commercial Driver's license is preferred.
Must pass the prescribed pre-employment physical, abuse registry review, and criminal background check.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, and reach with hands and arms, frequently in awkward or off balance positions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The duties of this job require some weekend, overtime and on-call hours.
