Job Overview

The Presentation Lantern Center (PLC) is a welcome center offering hospitality, educational opportunities such as free English and citizenship tutoring and advocacy to adult immigrants, especially women, who are striving to better their lives. We were founded by the Sisters of the Presentation of Dubuque, Iowa and are sustained by the sisters as well as by grants, individuals and business donations. The center is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.

Summary:  The Assistant Director assists the Executive Director with the daily operation of the Lantern Center and long-term financial sustainability for our thriving organization. They develop and maintain outreach to recruit donors and promote advocacy and awareness in the community. Provides advocacy and referral services for our clients in conjunction with the Executive Director. The Assistant Director is responsible for all fundraising, grant writing, marketing and overseeing the day to day business operations at the Presentation Lantern Center. Must possess leadership, communication and organizational skills and a willingness to work a flexible schedule. The successful candidate will be passionate & knowledgeable about advocating for fair & just treatment of refugees and immigrants. It is imperative all employees welcome everyone to the center with a spirit of hospitality and non-judgment

Salary & Benefits: starting salary range is $45,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience, education, skills

Full Time Salaried: avg. 40 hrs./week

Center is open to the public each weekday: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays: 10AM-3PM; Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1PM-7PM.

20 Days/Four Weeks Paid Vacation

5 paid holidays

10 paid sick/personal leave days per year

Flexible hours and schedule in July (as Center is typically closed to the public for a tutor/student summer break)

Relevant Professional Development & association membership is encouraged, supported and funded as able by the Lantern Center

Primary Responsibilities:
1. Lead all fundraising, marketing events and grant writing activities for the PLC

2. Research, recommend and implement a donor management software program; train staff & maintain it

3. Track donations, manage donor relationships and prepare communications to donors in collaboration with the Executive Director

4. Develop and implement an annual budget for the development area of the PLC in collaboration with the PLC Finance Committee and Executive Director

5. Participate actively on the Marketing/Development Committee

6. Lead all PLC publications and communications

7. Engage in public speaking opportunities

8. Assist executive director with maintaining and developing new partnerships in the tri-state area

 

Qualifications:
o Non-profit development (fundraising) experience preferred

o Bilingual in Spanish with written and verbal fluency preferred

o Bachelor's degree (preferred)

o Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

o Ability to manage work, phone calls, walk-ins & respond to clients and colleagues patiently in a fast-paced environment

o Ability to meet deadlines (e.g. for grants, newsletters)

o Appreciation for various cultures and languages

o Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, basic Excel, basic Outlook/email, required)

o Strong interpersonal and written communication skills including experience in public speaking or willingness to learn presentation skills

o Time management and organizational skills
