Director of Equity
Job Goal: Serves as a key leader who embraces and champions the Dubuque Community School District’s fundamental value of ensuring equity for all. The successful candidate for this position will organize, coordinate, communicate, and manage various facets of educational equity, including staff professional development, to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each student.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree accepted in human resources, education, or related field.
- Competency leading in culturally diverse environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups.
- Committed to and understanding of racial equity.
- Experience in data-based decision making.
- Experience planning and conducting professional development and training.
- Well-developed research skills and the ability to synthesize new information readily.
- Comfortable with occasional travel and working evenings and occasional weekends.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Serves as the DCSD Equity Coordinator and Title IX Coordinator.
- Execute and/or monitor educational programs/opportunities in schools, departments, etc., to determine compliance with the goals of the District and provide annual status reports.
- Collaborate with curriculum, instruction and assessment departments to develop a systematic plan for incorporating multicultural gender fair approaches; documents efforts to include diversity in Career and Technical (CTE) advisory and other committees; analyzes over/underrepresentation in CTE courses by race, gender and disability.
- Represent the District by serving on community committees, boards, and attending community meetings.
- Assist with recruiting candidates underrepresented as outlined in the district EEO Plan.
- Assist in recommending new policies and programs, which support diversity as well as regulations and procedures relating to equal access and equal opportunity.
- Design and deliver staff development sessions relating to equal opportunity, cultural competency, compliance, civil rights grievance process, etc., for appropriate school district personnel and students.
- Review and communicate current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to diversity and EEO initiatives and compliance.
- Work to learn and continuously improve skill set through professional development.
- Facilitates the District Equity Committee.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination laws and board policy.
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable laws, rules and regulations related to diversity and EEO issues.
- Act as a consultant in resolving charges of noncompliance with established policies of equal access because of race, gender, age, color, religion, national origin, disabilities, or marital status.
- Be a presence in community functions and activities that focus on/or promote equity in our schools and community.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, families, and other employees.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the District’s policy on evaluation, State statute, and any applicable District practices.
Terms of Employment: Twelve-month contract. Salary: competitive and commensurate with education and experience. An attractive fringe benefit package is included.
