Overview
Responsible for leading and managing the Public Safety program and the Public Safety Officers for UnityPoint Health to achieve specific quality, safety, security, service and financial goals while providing a safe and secure environment for visitors, patients, physicians and staff. Responsible for managing the Parking Department by coordinating needs and services with DMPA and the Grounds Department to provide a safe, secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Oversees the hiring, termination, daily staffing, performance management and staff development while building positive customer relationships and utilizing open communication. Responsible for conducting quality audits with customers and developing improvement strategies for increasing customer satisfaction while maintaining financial goals for each department. Responsible for the Public Safety Department responses to all disaster and/or emergencies, both internal and external, while working in collaboration and cooperation with the administrative staff at UnityPoint Health.

Responsibilities
Operational Functions
- Oversees the daily operation of assigned functions for Public Safety and Parking at UPH while utilizing a team-oriented approach to duties and focusing on continuous improvement.
- Practice reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

- Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.
- Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other’s views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests.

- Build and maintain effective customer relations with staff, patients, visitors, physicians and administration.

- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:
|
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or a related field is preferred but commensurate work experience within the industry may be substituted for a degree.

Experience:
|
A minimum of five (5) years of Security enforcement in a medical setting experience preferred with a minimum of 3 years of direct supervision.

License(s)/Certification(s):
|
A valid Iowa Drivers’ License and be insurable.
Certification required in the following: AS, OC/Pepper Spray, Handcuffs, CPR, AED and MAB.
