- Mathematical: to be effective welders need good math skills to calculate dimensions, read blueprints, and understand diagrams.
- Attention to Detail: completed work must be accurate and precise. Welders must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other design documents to ensure they understand the intended design and can accurately represent the work. They also use this attention to detail to ensure they follow all safety regulations and industry standards.
- Communication: communicate with supervisors and other welders to understand the purpose and requirements of the project.
- Ability to Learn: welding technology is always changing. Welders shall be willing to learn new things and to continue to train and learn through their trade.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ability to pass a GMAW structural weld test.
- Understand and follow company welding procedure specifications related to MIG welding.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, data sheets, spec sheets, and other project material.
- Fabricate and assemble components by studying blueprints, following work instructions and other stated specifications.
- Execute welds that meet industry standards, examine pieces for discontinuities, and measure pieces with proper equipment to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Adaptable to unique projects like railing and stairs.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workstation to company standards to ensure a safe and operational work environment.
- Ability to safely operate heavy fabrication equipment (forklift & SkyTrak) and multiple tools.
- Work independently or with a small team.
- Comply and maintain required company standards of quality and safety.
Qualifications
- Related industry experience is particularly helpful.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50 or more pounds.
- Pre-employment drug screen and audiometry test required.
