Position Description
We are currently seeking a full-time, on-site Construction Observer covering eastern Iowa. This position will be responsible for observing, testing, and documenting the construction of civil engineering projects including but not limited to roadway, flood protections, water mains, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, street pavement, water treatment facilities, and wastewater treatment facilities in accordance with project plans and specifications.
The ideal candidate would be an individual who is even-tempered, works well in a team environment, possesses a high level of self-motivation, and has strong communication skills when interacting with design professionals, the general public and contractors.

Responsibilities
Read and interrupt plans and specifications
Prepare detailed diary notes documenting all aspects of testing and work completed each day
Measure daily quantities installed
Review shop drawing submittals
Provide required information for the preparation of As-Constructed drawings
Prepare project close-out documentation for audit purposes through a variety of funding agencies
Requirements
5-10 years of progressive experience with an associate degree in civil engineering technology is preferred but not mandatory. Additional or related experience will be considered in lieu of an associate degree.
A working knowledge of how to use Microsoft Word and EXCEL
Must be able to remove and install manhole lids and intake grates weighing up to 115 pounds
Valid Iowa driver’s license
Familiarity with Iowa SUDAS Specifications is beneficial
Iowa DOT course certifications are preferred but not mandatory
