POSITION STATUS/HOURS: Full-time – salaried, exempt position. Benefit eligible
JOB SUMMARY:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for enhancing the internal organization processes and infrastructure that will allow Grant Regional Health Center to continue to grow and fulfill its mission. The COO directs, administers, and coordinates the activities of the hospital in support of policies, procedures, goals and objectives established by the CEO and Board of Directors. The COO will represent the organization in senior level relationships and will collaborate with the senior management team in the development of higher-level strategic initiatives. Grant Regional is a joint commission accredited not-for-profit facility.
The Chief Operating Officer will:
• Provide the vision, leadership, management and implementation of programs/services for the following departments: Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, Rehabilitation, Occupational Health, Diabetic Education, and Dietary. Department assignment subject to change based on needs of the hospital.
• Provide effective leadership and people management to ensure a competent and productive labor force; select, assign, direct and evaluate the performance of subordinate administrative staff and department managers
• Perform employee relations functions effectively to promote a positive work environment, influence retention, and enhance communication
• Develop, secure approval of, and administer a total budget of staffing, operational and capital expenses which provide the resources necessary to attain agreed upon goals and objective
• Practice good guest relations with patients, visitors, physicians, staff, and assist as needed
• Demonstrate awareness of the responsibility of the position and how it interfaces with the rest of the healthcare team. Work closely with all department members as required, is flexible to meet the needs of the department and changes in workload
• Accurately demonstrate use of database systems to document occurrences, committee review and actions. Compile reports for committees, Board of Directors, and administrative team
• Utilize information obtained via performance improvement activities to seek and act on opportunities to improve patient care processes
• Consistently demonstrate professional, self-directed, mature, disciplined, and tactful approach to department responsibilities
• Communicate and present effectively. Able to express ideas/opinions, use appropriate congruence communication methods; deal with coworkers and customers openly and honestly; and is receptive and attentive to communication/feedback from coworkers, customers, physicians, the public, and Board of Directors
• Demonstrate creativity and initiative in job. Contribute, develop, support and/or carry out new ideas and methods in cooperation with coworkers and management
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or other directly related field is required.
• Successful experience managing a team of professionals to get results.
• Ability to stay on top of trends in the healthcare industry with particular focus on competitive analysis, growth, and innovation.
• Proven ability to identify the need for change, anticipating, recognizing, and creatively solving resistance to change; working with others to view change as a challenge and opportunity for growth. Display an ability to be a risk taker and assume the role of change agent. However, someone who understand the importance of collegiality, collaboration, and team spirit.
• A credible leader who utilizes communication, coaching, sponsorship, and training to successfully manage the people-side of change to realize successful outcomes of a business change.
• One who is positive, creative, and innovative with a strong understanding of the business aspects of healthcare and the acumen to play a substantive role in developing strategies, budgets, and business plans. Financially astute, with a solid understanding of cost issues and initiatives.
• Knowledge of applicable State and Federal regulations, Medicare, Joint Commission standards, etc.
• Computer proficiency including MS Office software, ability to learn and successfully utilize electronic medical records and other clinical software. Ability to compile and analyze data.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills a must in order to effectively enhance relationships with the communities we serve, including the internal organization. Excellent public presentation skills.
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects, people, and deadlines at one time
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision getting results in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all patients, guests, employees, department managers, administrative team, physicians & providers, community, and Board of Directors.
