Job Overview

Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) assists in the delivery of primary health care services and client care management in a fast-paced office setting. Under the supervision of the medical provider, participates in providing health promotion, health maintenance and illness management. This is for a Triage Nurse in the Medical Department.

Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.

  • Conducts initial assessments to evaluate how urgently a patient needs care
  • Respond to incoming phone calls and critically think on appropriate next steps
  • Respond to patients as they arrive to clinic and help with their medical needs
  • Assist the clinic with emergent needs and help coordinate between local hospitals
  • Ask appropriate questions, check vital signs, and coordinate care with other medical professionals
  • Assists with preparation of patients for provider office visit, greet and escort patient to the exam room
  • Obtain patient's vitals, update the patient's medical history, medications and allergies
  • Document all screening information electronically in chart in an accurate, thorough and timely manner
  • Prepare and administer injections as ordered per provider and standing orders
  • Perform office lab procedures accurately and timely
  • Records and completes lab orders for in-house and contact lab in a timely manner
  • Clean and sterilize all equipment utilized and exam room items according to OSHA and blood born pathogen protocols
  • Distribute educational materials and resources to the patient as directed by the provider
  • Assists the provider by reviewing patient charts and identifying any gaps in care and outstanding orders according to best practice guidelines
  • Assist the provider with ordering necessary imaging referral coordination
  • Assists patient with scheduling for follow-up appointments
  • Communicate test results to patient as directed by the provider
  • Maintain a safe, clean, efficient and welcoming environment for patients and staff
  • Successful completion of initial and annual competency assessments
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the individual in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • Registered Nurse licensed in the state of Iowa required
  • Basic Computer and data entry skills required
  • Minimum of 1 year practicing as a registered nurse required
  • Experience in a medical office setting

Language Skills:

  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully with all patients and staff

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,).
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • If certified, completion of credentialing and privilege

This is a full-time position working 36 hours - Monday through Thursday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Full benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, STD, LTD, 401(k) with match, PTO and sick leave
