TUMBLER OPERATOR

WAGE: $20.30/HOUR

LOCATION: DUBUQUE, IA

 

Job Summary

The Tumbler Operator is responsible for operating tumbling machines and related finishing equipment to clean, deburr, polish, or smooth metal stampings produced at our facility. The role requires turning out parts that meet quality specifications, maintaining safe and clean work areas, and supporting efficient production flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Load metal stampings or parts into tumbling machines according to production orders and set-up instructions.

  • Monitor tumbling operations: ensure correct media, cycle times, machine settings, and part flow.

  • Unload finished parts and perform visual inspections for quality (e.g., surface finish, burr removal, cleanliness).

  • Reject or flag any parts that do not meet appearance or quality standards; communicate issues to quality/inspection team.

  • Record production counts, machine cycle times, defects and downtime.

  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance and housekeeping of tumbling equipment and surrounding area (e.g., remove media, clean machine drums, inspect for wear).

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE), machine guards, lock-out/tag-out when necessary, and follow company safety procedures.

  • Assist with set-ups, changeovers and machine adjustments when needed (e.g., adjusting media types, machine speed, or part orientation).

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives: suggest process improvements, assist with problem solving when tumbling issues occur (e.g., unusual wear, media contamination, machine jams).

  • Help maintain inventory of tumbling media and supplies, and alert supervisor when stock is low.

  • Cooperate with team members, maintenance staff, quality department, and production leads to maintain production goals and shift schedules.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

  • Previous manufacturing or machine‐operating experience is a plus (especially in finishing / tumbling, metal fabrication or stamping).

  • Mechanical aptitude: ability to understand machine operations, follow set‐up instructions, perform minor adjustments and basic maintenance.

  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to visually inspect parts for finish/quality.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions, read job orders, basic math skills (e.g., count parts, calculate yields).

  • Good physical stamina: able to stand for long periods, lift up to ~50 lbs occasionally, bend, stoop, and move around production floor.

  • Flexible to work mandatory overtime and potentially different shifts as production requires.

  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
