Job Overview
The Surgical Services unit is a 49-bed, post-op surgical unit for general and orthopedic surgery. The unit provides pre- and post-op nursing care, patient teaching, and discharge planning.
- Patients range from adolescent to geriatric in age.
- Common orthopedic diagnoses include: same-day joint replacement, spinal fusions, and surgical repair for sport injuries, medical and surgical care for trauma and post ICU. We also specialize in general abdominal and laparoscopic surgery, genitourinary, ENT, cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries, gynecological procedures, plastics, oral surgery, and diagnostic interventions.
- Our average length of stay is three days.
- CNA PRN work every other weekend (or as needed) and fill in short shift hours after school to help the unit where the needs are.
- CNA to patient ratio is 1:8–9 on day and evening shifts.
The Nursing Assistant is a member of the MercyOne Dubuque/Dyersville Medical Center healthcare team and is under the direct supervision of a registered professional nurse providing holistic, compassionate, individualized, and effective patient care by assisting the patient with activities of daily living, as well as, other physical, emotional, and spiritual needs consistent with the Mission of MercyOne, Vision of Patient Care Services, evidence-based standards of care, and established policies and procedures.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Certification in a 75-hour CNA certification program required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred for positions requiring certified nursing assistants.
- All Certified Nursing Assistants are encouraged to belong to the National Nursing Aide Registry. In certain areas, participation in the registry is required and the CNA must complete 12 hours of in-service per calendar year.
- Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
