Our goal is to maintain Dubuque’s heritage of excellence by recruiting candidates that reflect the rich makeup of our diverse population. We appreciate your interest and have provided information to guide you through the steps required to become a member of our elite firefighting team. We offer two written testing options: 1) A virtual/at-home written entrance examination offered on October 18, 2022, or 2) An in-person written entrance examination at 6:00 p.m. on October 20, 2022 at the Dubuque County Emergency Responder Training Facility at 14928 Public Safety Way, Dubuque. At the time of the written exam, applicants must be 18 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Applicants must possess a State of Iowa Emergency Medical Technician certification, and will be considered for employment dependent upon staffing needs. Applicants may possess a current State of Iowa Paramedic certification, or be eligible for Iowa endorsement of another state’s paramedic certification or the National Registry’s Paramedic Credentials. A pre-employment drug screen is administered prior to appointment. We offer $17.46 - $20.21 per hour for EMT, or $19.41 - $22.82 per hour for Paramedic. Our attractive benefit package includes paid parental leave, competitive health and dental insurance, flexible spending options, a defined benefit retirement plan, certification pay and student loan forgiveness. To register for the exam and apply by the October 2, 2022 deadline, visit www.cityofdubuque.org/jobs.
