Job Overview
The Inpatient Therapy Supervisor is accountable for the day to day coordination and supervision of inpatient therapy and the inpatient rehab unit operations and clinical outcomes in accordance with established facility and departmental policies and procedures. Models behavior which cultivates compassion, customer service, and service quality. Provides leadership oversight to the team, and promotes team building amongst the staff. Facilitates communication amongst staff, management, providers, and other customers. Responsible for effective implementation of policies, procedures and standards. Performs duties in clinical capacity as needed as a therapist. Supervisor will identify opportunities for clinical care of staff and maintaining/growing unit census. Responsible for identifying physician practice patterns, supply and equipment utilization and staff utilization. Monitors significant departmental trends that can shift/affect the business unit.
Assumes a proactive role in improving quality of care and assuring competency of the rehab and therapy staff. Actively participates in performance improvement and program development activities, which includes leading CARF accreditation, marketing of services, growth plans, productivity and cost effectiveness of services, and maintaining positive relations with all customers (customer service). Assists the Director in assuring that all services are customer focused using the Guiding Behaviors to achieve Key Results.
Provides input into departmental budget, cost center management of hours, initial and annual performance appraisals, conflict management, staff meetings, incident reports, and staffing such as hiring and discipline/ ermination of staff.
When needed, plans, administers, implements, and evaluates patients for all appropriate programs and services within the PM & R department, for all patient age groups. Possesses the skills necessary to provide direct patient care specific to each age group in accordance with department protocol. The age of the patients served range in age from infants to geriatrics.
Must be able to function as a physical and/or occupational therapist in all commonly practiced aspects of patient evaluation and treatment appropriate for assigned age group.
Previous patient care experience preferred. Experience in a rehabilitation leadership role preferred.
Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) by the State of Iowa to practice as a Physical or Occupational Therapist.
Bachelor's Degree in Physical or Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training are required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) will be required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
Knowledge of computer skills/software desired; spread sheet and word processing (Word, Excel, Email and Power Point).
