Built in 1883, this four story Stick style (a variation of the Queen Anne style) mansion was constructed as a showcase of wood and stained glass.
Occupied by the original owner’ family until its conversion to a Bed and Breakfast inn, the interior remains original, with only minor updating like wiring the original gas light fixtures for electricity. The house still boasts of eight varieties of varnished woodwork (some from South America), eight fireplaces, 15 different patterns of embossed wallcoverings, original chandeliers, hand-painted and embossed tiles, elaborate built-ins, and a dazzling display of over 80 stained glass windows.
The Richards House Bed and Breakfast Inn was established in 1989 by David Stuart. Michelle has been the innkeeper since July 1989.
AARP Foundation SCSEP (Senior Community Service Employment Program) places older worker in a variety of community services activities at nonprofit and public facilities like day cares, senior centers, schools, libraries and various other locations to help them sharpen skills to return to the workforce and earn income! We provide paid training for individuals 55 and older who are currently unemployed and low income (must meet eligibility guidelines).

The mission of the Seniors United for Nutrition Program, Inc. (SUN) is to support and assist seniors 60 and over by providing hot nutritious meals, home delivered or in a group setting, to promote fellowship, reduce isolation, and to provide prevention programming to assist in maintaining independence and involvement in their community. We serve senior adults 60 and over in both Iowa and Lafayette counties. SUN will make every effort to serve rural home delivery participants, depending on availability of a driver and funds. Statistics have proven the nutrition program has been instrumental in assisting in keeping seniors in their own homes and independent longer, thereby saving dollars in health care costs and aiding in the comfort and happiness of older Americans. Volunteers are the heart of our program. All program operations depend upon the support and hours given by local volunteers assisting at all the meal sites.
