POSITION TITLE: Plant Maintenance #1- Electrician

Buildings and Grounds Department

261-day work calendar, 8 hours, 6:30-3pm, biweekly pay, $33.69 hourly

 

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports To: Manager of Buildings and Grounds

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A City of Dubuque, State of Iowa, and Electrical Journeyman License/Registration is required.

• Has in-depth knowledge of all aspects of electrical work and code compliance.

• Has a minimum of three years' experience in commercial and or educational environment as an electrician.

• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations

• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

• Ability to use hand and power tools.

• Experienced with 120, 208 volt, single phase, 208-480 3 phase voltage, low voltage, data, and qualified to work in accordance with the National Electric Safety Code.

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

To provide the day to day maintenance and repair of electrical, and infrastructure of the school facilities, to achieve implementation of educational program goals.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To perform work according to accepted trade practices and procedures in cooperation with Manager and Assistant Manager of Buildings and Grounds.

2. To inspect, repair and maintain electrical motors, light fixtures and make electrical repairs to all school equipment.

3. To use measuring and testing equipment required in the performance of assigned work.

4. To maintain records as required by the Manager and Assistant Manager of Buildings and Grounds.

5. To lift and move heavy objects and to work from ladders and scaffolding.

6. Demonstrates a commitment to multicultural nonsexist policies and practices.

7. Adheres to all Board Policies.

8. Assists in the development and implementation of a preventative maintenance program on district electrical equipment including electrical lighting circuits, conduit and duct systems, transformers and other types of electrical power equipment. Repair and replace switches, receptacles and circuit breakers. Install and maintain fluorescent lights, ballasts and fixtures. Install and maintain automated systems including parking lot lights, emergency lights, and security lists and controls. Assist other trade workers with electrical repairs and installation.

9. Make repairs to all lighting and other components.

10. Develops and maintains an inventory of spare parts for electrical repairs.

11. Designs and constructs electrical projects (i.e., wiring of computer facilities, making corridor lighting changes).

12. Make repairs to existing electrical units (i.e., public address/intercom systems, telephone systems, computer network systems, fire alarm systems, temperature control systems, security systems, projectors, CCT, food service equipment, and clock systems).

13. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively, both oral and in writing. Lift heavy objects and perform heavy manual labor. Assist in other skilled trade's areas as required.

14. Performs any other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1. Twelve month contract

2. Forty (40) hours per week

3. Salary and benefits per the negotiated Agreement

About the Company

The Dubuque Community School District reorganized in the early 1960's with the surrounding rural area and now serves a population of over 70,000. Presently, we have a student enrollment of approximately 10,120 students. A total staff of 2,522 employees (including 959 certified teachers, counselors and nurses) is presently employed by the Dubuque Community School District. The geographical area the Dubuque District serves is over 245 square miles and the District provides school bus transportation approximately 5,000 students each day.

Eighteen school buildings are utilized to house our educational program: two high schools, one alternative learning center, three middle schools, and twelve K-5 elementary schools. Other facilities are provided for transportation, maintenance, cafeteria, and administration.
