Position Summary:
The Assistant Childcare Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. This position involves supervising children during playtime, meals, and other daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. The Assistant Childcare Teacher helps facilitate and implement engaging activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development aligned with each child's developmental stage.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise children during playtime, meals, and other activities, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Help facilitate daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for the age group, promoting cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development
- Assist the Lead Teacher in planning daily activities and curriculum that are developmentally appropriate for young children
- Assist with communication between parents and teachers, along with developing interpersonal relationships with children and their families
- Observe children's behavior and development, and reporting any concerns to the Lead Teacher
- Promote diversity, positive social interactions and a welcoming atmosphere for all children
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University's Mission
Position Skills and Abilities:
- Effective communication with children, parents, and coworkers
- Ability to work with young children and understand their needs
- Ability to multi task and prioritize multiple responsibilities
- Ability to observe children's behavior and report relevant information
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and be on your feet for extended periods of time
- Work with children from diverse backgrounds and culture
Requirements:
- Diploma Required; Associate Degree Preferred
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions, and Mandatory Reporting training is preferred: ability to obtain certifications after employment is required
- Previous experience working with children is required
- Ability to work a flexible schedule is preferred
