Your Responsibilities
As a BHIS Counselor, you will work with families to help create supportive environments at home. They offer the tools, training, and support that address the behavioral health needs of children in the home.BHIS counselors will work with families in the privacy of their home to ensure comfort while learning new skills. BHIS Counselors engage the youth in skill-building programs that target specific behavioral struggles and help to improve a childs skills. BHIS Counselors work to empower children and help them manage their behaviors effectively. BHIS Counselors work to build skills in the areas of communication, coping with difficult emotions, managing anger, conflict resolution, and decision making. Additional responsibilities include:
- Working in home to teach skills to youth
- Working with families to learn behavior management and coping strategies
- Assessing on going concerns
- Identifing goals with families and clients
- Completing all documentation in an acceptable manner, according to Medicaid, state and Hillcrest guidelines
- Completing service plans and documentation
- Coordinating the delivery of or child welfare services with any/all other services provided by Hillcrest or any external provider
- Attending a minimum of 24 hours of acceptable training within the first year of employment and a minimum of 15 hours annually after the first year
- Other duties as assigned
What You Need
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of two years relevant experience in a behavioral healthcare setting if degree is in non-healthcare related field
- Ability to work with struggling youth and their families in the home
- Ability to work independently off site while receiving remote support
- Experience working with electronic health records (EHR)
- Must have interest and knowledge of community health care and primary care
- Demonstrated commitment to impacting the care of high risk patients
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, staff, and external organizations
- Strong communication skills with diverse populations
- Excellent coordination and time-management skills
- Solid relationship-building and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated awareness and value of cultural competence
