Job Summary: To assist the bus driver to provide a safe, comfortable ride for each student rider and to maintain disciplinary control of each rider on the bus.
Hourly Rate: $18.61

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work with, lead and teach students appropriate bus behavior and rules.
- Have positive, flexible, patient attitude to work in a structured environment for students that may have special needs
- Ability to keep bus in clean working condition
- Must be able to comply with and pass a background investigation
- Must have strong communication skills
- Must have good hand and finger dexterity. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Physical demands exceed what might be considered “light work”
- Must be able to quickly stoop, bend, kneel, squat, push, pull, twist, & reach overhead without help from others
- Must be able to board and exit the bus without the support of others
Experience:
- Successfully worked with child supervision.
- Successfully worked with people having special needs.
- Display professional communication and relationships with co-workers.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Bus drivers and attendants work together as a team for the safety and well-being of their student passengers. The bus driver is primarily responsible for the overall safe operation of the vehicle. The attendant is primarily responsible for supervising children on the bus as well as assisting with the loading and unloading of students. Consistency and communicating common expectations from both adults is critical for behavior management on the bus.
- All employees are subject to pre-hire and periodic back ground investigation.
- Report to work in a timely manner to perform all duties as scheduled.
- Use provided student information to safely run on scheduled time. Update as needed.
- Supervise safe loading, unloading and transportation of students from age 2 to 21.
- Be a positive role model for students by exhibiting professional work habits.
- Teach students safe riding habits and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Be able to work under pressure to provide first aid and assist emergency personnel.
- Maintains order with respect. Refers inappropriate student activity to the Transportation Manager.
- Be able to relate to and successfully work with students with medical, mental or physical needs.
- Follow any required special handling, or medical requirements that the students may need. Including, but not limited to operation of, wheelchairs, safety vests, epi-pens, assistive animals, technology, walkers or canes.
- When required or present, ensures child restraint equipment or seat belts are properly used.
- Keep route vehicle interior and exterior in clean condition.
- Legibly & accurately, complete all required paperwork and record keeping. Including billing records, behavior records.
- Maintain confidentiality of all records and student information.
- Report accurate description of child abuse when observed.
- Be available and successfully complete all required training.
- Be able to learn technology requirements as needed.
- Be able to communicate information clearly and in appropriate, professional manner.
- Be able to work effectively in stressful, emergency situations when they occur.
- Use positive professional attitude with co-workers, school staff, parents and students.
- Become familiar with all routes to and from school to be able to assist drivers with directions when needed.
- Experience and/or desire working with diverse group of students.

Working Conditions:
- Risk of exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
- Risk involved with working in a moving environment. Riding in traffic, on highways, side streets, parking lots and rough rural roads.
- Risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
- Acceptable to work in varying temperatures; extreme heat or cold.
- The ability to work around vehicles with loud, noisy, moving parts.
- Possible exposure to vehicle exhaust and cleaning supplies.
