Description:
POSITION PURPOSE:
Assist the Teacher in the care of children ranging in age from 0-12 years. Programs are designed around the developmental needs of children.
SCOPE OF SERVICE:
Customers include: children, parents, co-workers, volunteers, and visitors.

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must earn 6 hours of continuing education in Early Childhood Education per year. Must meet all mandatory education and training requirements within specified timeframes as required by organizational/regulatory standards.

2. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
3. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

9. Supervises children and provides for their physical safety at all times. In doing so, identifies and corrects potential risk situations and hazards and completes incident reports.
10. Creates an environment which is interesting and challenging to the children.
11. Demonstrates willingness to discuss and work out problems with peers and parents as they arise.
12. Demonstrates knowledge of positive reinforcement and redirection as behavior modification techniques.
13. Seeks the majority of continuing education requirements in areas that will be most beneficial to the department and the individual.
14. Strives for individual performance excellence within the job in order to help the department achieve its goals.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Maintains a professional, collaborative work environment so as to foster a positive public image for MercyOne Medical Center.
2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, Stark, etc.)
3. Must have well developed communication skills; strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
4. Must like and be patient with children.
5. Must have fundamental knowledge of the growth and development of the child with particular emphasis on preschool and school age children.
6. Must be flexible.
7. Must be able to accompany the children on outside field trips.
8. Must demonstrate good hygiene techniques in accordance with Center guidelines.
9. Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on the changing needs of the department and/or the organization.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. In an 8 hour day, employee must sit 4 hours, stand 2 hours, and walk 2 hours.
2. Job requires continuous (80% or more of work time) bending, stooping, crouching, and kneeling; frequent crawling and reaching; occasional balancing, pushing, and pulling.
3. Job requires occasional lifting and carrying of objects (6-10% of work time) weighing 75 lbs.; frequently (21%-50% of work time) weighing 35 lbs., and continuously (80% or more of work time) weighing 25 lbs.
4. Job requires the use of hands for repetitive action such as simple grasping, firm grasping, and fine manipulating.
5. Some outside field trips are required.
6. Must be able to tolerate noise.
7. Requires visual acuity, the ability to speak and the ability to hear speech.
8. Must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES
(EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):
1. Education, Licensure and Certification
A. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
B. Must earn State Mandatory hours of continuing education in Early Childhood Education per year.
C. Must meet all mandatory education and training requirements within specified timeframes as required by organizational/regulatory standards.
D. Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
2. Experience:
One to two years previous work experience with children and/or schooling in Early Childhood Education is highly desirable.
3. Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:
Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated experience and competency with Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of the departments. Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job.
