Childcare Medical Assistant

Hills & Dales is dedicated to building meaningful lives for children and adults with disabilities. We are currently seeing a skilled Childcare Assistant to join our Medical Childcare Program. This role involves implementing individualized care and treatment plans in collaboration with the Childcare Director and Director of Nursing.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:15 am - 2:15 pm

Responsibilities:

  • Assist children in becoming as independent as possible through skill development and retention by following all aspects of the Individual Care Plan to include nursing, therapy, and behavioral support.
  • Arrange and maintain assigned program area space to facilitate creative play, skill development, and safety.
  • Engage in ongoing communication with care team to discuss program needs, determine priorities, and suggest ways to promote learning, development, and health.
  • Facilitate appropriate communication between families and care team by attending all care team meetings as necessary. Record and communicate all pertinent information to families or appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Document in electronic record of individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, daily attendance and medications administered.
  • Instruct children in health and personal habits such as eating, resting and toilet habits. This includes performing or assisting children in their personal cares of diapering, toileting, and changing clothing as needed.
  • Actively participates in mealtime expectations. Assisting children in serving themselves meals and snacks. Following all State CACFP regulations.
  • Use positive guidance techniques in accordance with department standards to support children through challenging behaviors.
  • Support children's emotional and social development based on their social, emotional, physical, and developmental abilities as indicated in their Individual Care Plan.
  • Make sure supplies are available and ready for all activities, communicating with the Director if any supplies need to be ordered ahead of time.
  • Models' behavior that results in children understanding that all individuals are deserving of respectful and dignified treatment and promoting a healthy self-concept in all children.
  • Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning, dishwashing, and changing linens.
  • Assists other staff with all other duties as scheduled permits

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent. An associate degree in early childhood is preferred.
  • Two years minimum experience in an early childhood setting is preferred.
  • Free from a conviction or prior employment history of child or resident abuse or dependent adult abuse. Must complete and pass the National DCI fingerprint process, child/adult abuse and criminal background check prior to hire and every two years thereafter as regulations required.
  • Must complete CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions, Mandatory Reporting, and Essentials Childcare Preservice Series in the first three months of employment and 10 contact hours of child related training annually.
  • Must be able to pass Hills and Dales Childcare Center's physical examination prior to the start of employment and thereafter as regulations require.
  • Demonstrates understanding of Hills and Dales policies and procedures inclusive of Rules of Conduct and Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstration of acceptable levels of attendance, punctuality, and work ethic such that the job performance meets or exceeds expectations and maintains a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to develop interpersonal relationships with coworkers, staff, children, families, and the community such that job performance meets or exceeds expectations.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, grasp, push/pull, and move about center. Standing may be necessary for up to 75% of the day.

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl throughout the day.
  • Ability to immediately respond to an emergency from a seated or kneeling position.
  • Ability to talk, hear and see.
  • Required to lift up to 35 pounds frequently and occasionally may need to lift up to 50 pounds through on internal exception process.

Work Environment:

  • Position can be stressful due to the level of responsibility, varying programming, and supporting children who may use verbal and/or physical aggression towards self, staff, or other children.
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to work in various temperature and weather conditions for indoor and outdoor activities.
