Overview

We are looking for a PRN Clinical Dietitian to join our team. Work hours will vary per required need of the department. The Dietitian's work Monday - Friday, 7:30 pm - 4:30 pm. As a PRN employee you will be required to work a minimum of (1) 8 hour shift per month, (2) weekends per year and (1) holiday per year. You will receive a 10% PRN premium on all hours worked. 

The Clinical Dietitian establishes and maintains effective multidisciplinary relationships with the healthcare team to provide patient care that is integrated and compatible with the patient-focused medical/nutritional goals and objectives across a diversified area of practice.  Primary responsibilities include application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, developing and implementing nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluating of the patients progress. The Clinical Dietitian has responsibility for planning and implementing activities related to patient nutrition care based on standards established by Aramark Healthcare, regulatory agencies, and the client.

Responsibilities

Inpatient Dietitian Duties/Services

  • Conducts patient nutrition assessments on a population of varying acuity patients. Manages the development and implementation plan for nutrition intervention based on the interpretation of the Nutrition Care Process.
  • Utilizes assessment and evaluation techniques that consider the varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns.
  • Assesses educational needs and the presence of barriers to learning. Provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups, taking into consideration any adaptations to teaching methods necessary to meet patient learning needs
  • Evaluates achievement of learning objectives by the patient and/or family. Provides appropriate follow-ups in accordance with the patients treatment goals, referring patients for outpatient counseling, community, or home health services as appropriate.
  • Delivers operational performance based on Aramark Healthcare and regulatory agency standards and programs in conjunction with an analysis of patient needs. Continually monitors, develops and implements assessments and necessary action plans to provide optimal nutrition care and meal service to patients/residents.
  • Works cooperatively with medical staff as well as food & nutrition services staff to assure conformance to medical considerations.
  • Provides education that ensures compliance with food safety, sanitation, and overall workplace safety standards within the Food and Nutrition Department.
  • Conducts patient and nurse rounding to drive satisfaction scores.
  • Maintains clinical productivity standards and accurate record keeping of daily activities.
  • Collaborates with others in committees, work groups or projects designed to improve services. Seeks opportunities for quality improvement and participates in problem solving and resolution of issues.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:

 

 

·        Bachelors Degree

Experience:

·        1 to 2 years of clinical dietitian experience

License(s)/Certification(s):

·        Certification as a Registered Dietitian

·        Licensed in the state of Iowa

·        Certification as a Certified Diabetes Educator

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·        Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

·        Computer knowledge to include word and data processing.

·        Understanding of the proper use of patients protected health information.
