Summary/Objective 

The CNC Setup is responsible for the setup and operation of CNC machines and other equipment to produce high-quality machined parts.

Essential Functions

  • Complete tasks and conduct behaviors consistent with promoting a standard of excellence. 
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report any unsafe situations to management or human resources.  
  • In-person, on-site, predictable attendance and punctuality in alignment with the position’s scheduled hours. 
  • Prepares and operates CNC machines to perform such tasks as turning, drilling, milling, and tapping.
  • Understanding of GD&T and/or other dimensional standards.
  • Interacts with ERP system and computers as required.
  • Follows department setup work instructions.
  • Record all machine actions by completing production logs, inspection logs, and all other required documentation.
  • Gathers required tooling, gaging, fixturing, and other required materials per documentation.
  • Setup CNC machines using provided process sheets, job traveler, and other documentation as required.
  • Proofreads program and understands the process before mounting tooling into the machine.
  • Mounts tools and tooling holding systems into machines.
  • Sets tool offsets and work coordinates during setup, referencing any special instructions as applicable.
  • Dry runs program to verify programming, tool clearances/locations, and setup.
  • Inspects 1st piece to the blueprint and makes necessary program changes and tool offsets to meet blueprint requirements.
  • Ensures quality of setup and monitors machine to ensure efficiency and quality are to specification.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues during setup and production.
  • Analyzes processes and looks for improvement opportunities.
  • Communicates necessary information about setup and production to operators and other staff.
  • Assists operators with troubleshooting of production issues as necessary.
  • Performs as CNC Operator as needed.
  • Follows all departmental work procedures and company policies, including all company safety policies.
  • Participates in maintaining the company’s quality system and adheres to standard operating procedures as applicable.
  • Participates in employee training programs and communication meetings.
  • Ensures the work area and equipment is properly maintained to provide a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

Physical Demands Required 

The ideal candidate must be able to complete all the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. 
  • Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions. 
  • Standing, walking, and sitting for most of the time. Occasionally required to stoop or kneel. 
  • Use hands and arms to touch, lift, reach, grip, and grasp. 
  • Talking and hearing frequently. 
  • Occasional exposure to production floor elements such as noise, dust, fumes, odors, and heat 

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education development (GED) required.
  • 1-2 years of CNC operator experience preferred.
