Description:

MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center is hiring an ambitious and motivated individual to be the primary counselor for our new Partial Hospitalization Program. The Partial Hospitalization Program will provide services for those with a primary mental health diagnosis needing more support than outpatient treatment but not necessarily requiring inpatient treatment or hospitalization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide a comprehensive range of services to patients and their families, including assessment, treatment planning, care coordination & case management.

  • Design and implement an evidence-based curriculum using a combination of therapies including but not limited to: DBT, CBT, MI, SFT, etc.

  • Facilitate psychoeducational and/or therapeutic group sessions as well as individual sessions as needed/assigned.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of psychiatric professionals including nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers.

  • Provide consultation and support to staff on the Psychiatric Services Unit as well as other areas within the hospital as needed/assigned.

  • Maintain involvement in professional development to promote and further enhance the role of the counselor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling or other behavioral health-related field.

  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional counselor.

  • Experience working with a wide range of mental health diagnoses including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, substance use disorders, etc.

  • Experience providing group, family and/or individual psychotherapy.

  • Experience working in a team environment as well as independently.

  • Knowledge of current software applications.

  • Experience in a healthcare setting.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with populations having diverse values and/or varied cultures and backgrounds.

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in written and verbal form.

  • Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks.

  • Ability to react quickly and calmly to handle volatile and potential emergent situations.

  • Ability to make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances.

Consistent with the Iowa Board of Certification (IBC) Standards, the counselor is a member of the MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center multi-disciplinary treatment team and is accountable for the delivery of holistic, compassionate, individualized, and effective care demonstrated by the use of the core functions of practice associated with the counselor role.
