Build the Future

Could your creative thinking build the future? Our team at McGraw Hill make a difference for learners and educators across the world. Our team needs individuals with new ideas who connect with people in innovative ways.

How can you make an Impact?

McGraw Hill is seeking a Design Strategist (6 month term) to join our Product Studio within the Pre K-12 School Group.

As a Design Strategist, you will combine your expertise in design thinking, business strategy, and innovation to help develop effective solutions for important opportunities and needs of the classroom today.

Your main partner will be product management and you will focus on bridging the gap between design and business objectives by aligning creative ideas with strategic goals. This includes understanding the complex requirements and challenges of our diverse business plus the needs of our users and the digital and physical contexts within which they operate. Developing strategic plans that leverage design principles and methodologies to deliver holistic experiences.

What you will be doing:

  • Partner with our Product Analytics and Market Research teams to lead and conduct comprehensive research on user behavior, market dynamics, and industry trends to inform design decisions. Use both qualitative and quantitative methods to gather insights and identify potential design strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Champion a human-centered design approach across all phases of our product development lifecycle, starting with definition of the right problems to solve. Help develop new human-centered ways-of-working for many of our cross-functional team members.
  • Lead design thinking workshops and brainstorming sessions to encourage cross-functional collaboration and generate innovative ideas, including hyper-focused design sprints. Continuously iterate on design strategies and concepts to ensure alignment with both user expectations and business objectives.
  • Develop design strategies, concepts, and recommendations that enhance user satisfaction, usability, and overall experience. Articulate visualizations, flows, prototypes, and formalized design documentation combined with impactful storytelling.
  • Engage and collaborate within cross-functional teams that include product management, product and UX designers, program management, subject matter experts, and engineers amongst others. Provide leadership and guidance for all throughout the design process.
  • Help define key performance indicators and metrics to evaluate effectiveness of design strategies. Monitor and analyze data to assess the impact of design decisions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Confident sense-making and synthesis skills—you know how to connect the dots for meaning and impact.
  • Expert ability to continuously zoom in and out between the big picture and important details. You’ve always got the holistic experience in mind.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in design, business, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of design strategy experience, leading discovery and evaluative design research efforts. Experience with strategic planning and innovation management.
  • Experience designing and delivering end-to-end user experiences; preferably within an edtech, product innovation, or enterprise software environment.
  • Proven leadership abilities, including the ability to influence outside of chain-of-command.
  • Advanced proficiency with design tools and software such as Figma, Lucidchart, Adobe Creative Suite, prototyping tools, and project management platforms.
  • Ability to create and communicate an elevated design point of view regarding insights, latest trends, topics, and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to work within a self-directed culture and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The work you do at McGraw Hill will be work that matters. We are collectively designing content that will build the future of education. Play your part and experience a sense of fulfilment that will inspire you to even greater heights.

The pay range for this position is between $90,000-$120,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. Additionally, a full range of medical and/or other benefits may be provided, depending on the position offered. Click here to learn more about our benefit offerings.
