Overview
This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction for all areas noted below. Responsibilities include strategic planning, program development, quality improvement, clinical evidence-based practices and outcomes, oversight of daily operations, patient/family service excellence delivery and outcomes, informatics and technology selection and implementation, regulatory compliance, development and maintenance of community partnerships and fiscal sustainability.

Responsibilities
Strategic planning/business development
- Seeks out new trends and practices.
- Monitors regulatory, environmental, financial and market place changes, and incorporates these into the business planning process.
- Develops, implements and monitors an annual operating plan in alignment with the system’s business plan.
- Participates in developing, implementing and maintaining informatics technology, equipment, and other types of technology to have patient care areas function in a state of readiness.
- Collaborates with system partners for strategic planning alignment and deployment.
Quality Improvement
- Develops and implements a quality improvement plan that is in alignment with the hospital quality plan.
- Implements and monitors outcome measures of quality practices through various hospital channels such as Patient Safety, Shared Governance, and Infection Prevention.
- Assures that continuous improvement cycles are in place to measure and meet quality outcomes.
- Participates in activities which may include implementation of Team Stepps to create and maintain a culture of patient safety.
- Develops processes and systems to meet state trauma standards and stroke standards for ongoing certification.
Operations leadership and management
- Participates in Director on Call rotation
- Provides guidance, direction, decision making to support safe and optimal daily operations.
- Coaches and develops leadership staff and frontline staff in supporting safe and optimal daily operations.
- Provides oversight of the implementation and a culture of patient safety which may include the Team Stepps Program.
- Supports employee and provider engagement through visibility in patient care areas and recognition efforts.
- Identifies and implements opportunities for cost effectiveness and operational effectiveness.
- Develops and supports the successful management of annual budgets. Coaches leaders and frontline staff in understanding budgets and in meeting of fte and expense budgets relative to activity.
- Provides real time consultation as needed for operational issues.
- Works across departments and systems to address communication needs, patient care needs and system processes to ensure optimal operations.
- Promotes maintenance of all areas of responsibility to be in a state of readiness for regulatory agencies.
Service Excellence
- Oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of key processes to achieve patient and family service excellence outcome measures.
- Supports the leadership team, providers and frontline staff in incorporating the key patient and family services processes into the culture (e.g. AIDET, bedside shift report, intentional rounding, service recovery)
- Supports and coaches to create environments of care where care concerns are managed at resolved at the lowest level of accountability.
- Provides regular feedback from patient satisfaction surveys to staff and providers.
Financial Performance and Sustainability
- Oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of capital and annual operating budget.
- Forecasts budget replacement of equipment and facility remodels and/or upgrades
- Determines Return on Investment (ROI) for new projects
- Approves expenditures within limits of authority.
- Assists with overseeing and evaluating revenue cycle processes.
- Participates in reviewing and revising charge masters.
- Coaches and supports leadership team in have the education and skills to build, implement and monitor the budget process, FTE calculation process and the flexing of the budget to activity.
Stakeholder Relationships
- Establishes and maintains relationship with staff, leaders, providers and colleagues.
- Maintains key relationships with stake holders through check ins.
- Develops and maintains key community partnerships.
- Attends and participates in community events to represent areas of responsibility and the overall organization.
- Collaborates with system partners at UPH.
- Collaborates with physician and patient care leaders with the mutual goal for excellence in evidenced base practice.
Human Resource Management and Engagement
- Recruits and retains staff and leaders.
- Participates in talent management.
- Provides leadership through coaching, counseling, on-going feedback and peer review for the growth and development of staff, providers, leaders and colleagues.
- Supports activities and processes that promotes a highly engaged workforce.
- Supports and promotes opportunities for recognition and celebration.

Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing · |
Master’s Degree in Nursing |
Experience:
|
· 5-7 years’ progressive leadership experience- 3 years as a Nurse Manager
|

License(s)/Certification(s):
|
· State of Iowa Nursing license |
· National Certification in clinical area or administration |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
|
· Well-developed working knowledge of emergency nursing, forensic nursing, critical care nursing, psychiatry, family birthing services and general inpatient nursing. · Strong leadership skills · Demonstrated ability to seek opportunities for improvement with successful implementation of ideas. · Competent and confident interpersonal skills. · Team building and conflict resolution skills · Financial and business planning skills and experience. |
