Job Overview
PURPOSE AND PERFORMANCE GOALS
Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of all daily, weekly, monthly and annual financial information. Manage the Accounting, Night Audit, and Purchasing areas. Ensure all corporate and brand accounting policies and procedures are carried out. Effectively manage time and meet or exceed productivity standards. Provide financial guidance and support by serving on resort executive committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Select, train, schedule, supervise, discipline, and counsel accounting employees.
- Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics which inspire employees to exceed standards.
- Direct the development and implementation of internal control to ensure the security of Resort assets and the accurate recording of assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and other transactions.
- Prepare monthly financial statement and account reconciliations.
- Assure Resort meets internal and external audit standards, and function as lead accountant during annual audit by Certified Public Accountants.
- Prepares annual budget with assistance from General Manager and Corporate. Update forecasts throughout year as required by the management company.
- Provide financial oversight of the capital expenditure process.
- Ensure that all licenses, permits and insurance policies are current and are in compliance with local, state and federal laws. Monitor all contracts and agreements and advise resort management of the terms, conditions, and benefits.
- Assure all monthly, quarterly, and annual Resort tax returns and payments are made in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assume cash management responsibilities for entire resort, including periodic audits of cash on hand and preparation of statement of cash flow reports for the management company.
- Provide accurate measures of financial performance to General Manager for distribution to operational departments: food cost percentage, overtime, inventory levels, loss and damage, guest and associate relations costs, cash over/short, and capital expenditures.
- Act as a liaison between property and vendors & IT contractors.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct supervisory responsibilities for Purchasing Manager, Merchandise Manager, Income Auditor, Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable Clerk, Night Audit, IT, and Commissary. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, at least three years in the hospitality industry in a supervisory position within the accounting department.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Post high-school coursework in accounting. Previous experience as Director of Finance, Controller, or Assistant Controller at a similar size and type of resort, previous experience as department head at same facility. Must be proficient in all areas of Microsoft excel. M3 Accounting Core strongly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent speech communication skills are required to communicate both in person and via telephone with guests, associates and corporate contacts in a professional and extensive manner. Excellent written communication skills and literacy are required. Must be able to both assimilate and generate explicit and concise documents for publication within the resort and management company environment
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must be able to use appropriate judgments as it pertains to supervisory duties.

HOURS
Due to the seasonal nature of the hospitality industry, and the fact that the resort provides guest services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, any employee may be required to work rotating shifts, night shifts, and/or overtime.
