Director of Legal & Compliance
This position requires you to work in our Dubuque, IA office.
We are seeking a Director of Legal & Compliance to bring their expertise and passion to Cottingham & Butler Claims Services (CBCS), a Third Party Claims Administrator headquartered in Dubuque, IA. As the Director of Legal & Compliance, you will be responsible for overseeing all legal and compliance matters within the organization. You will play a critical role in ensuring that our company operates within the bounds of the law and maintains the highest standards of ethics and integrity. This is a leadership position that requires strategic thinking, strong legal expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Oversee internal delivery of compliance requirements and updates as necessary; support the Account Management team with respect to delivering updates to our client base. Prepare communications and deliver presentations on compliance matters.
- Provide legal support and consultancy to the claims staff on auto, general liability, and workers’ compensation claims.
- Understand and communicate carrier and state-mandated compliance requirements to the claims staff and assist with the design and implementation of process changes necessary to ensure compliance.
- Serve as CBCS’s lead on compliance investigations and allegations of errors or omissions; research issues, gather documentation, and make recommendations on potential resolution.
- Lead audit process, including pre-audit planning and communications, responses to auditor findings, post-audit reviews, and follow up actions and initiatives.
- Oversee claims litigation management process, including panel counsel qualifications, communications to CBCS panel firms, and adjuster litigation management requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Juris Doctorate preferred.
- Minimum of five years of claims operations and/or compliance experience, with increased responsibilities over time; or a minimum of three years of law practice experience.
- Experience in insurance and/or claim operations preferred.
- Strong leadership skills, technical accounting skills, and analytical skills.
- Good presentation skills and comfortable presenting to small and large groups.
