Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Nursing serves as the nursing executive for an individual Trinity Health facility. He/she is responsible for the planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating and evaluating of the activities of patient services in a manner which is in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne Health System. Through these activities, he/she develops and maintains an environment which is conducive to quality patient care. He/she collaborates with the medical staff and other department managers to achieve organizational objectives. He/she participates in the development of general hospital goals, policies and procedures. He/she may be authorized to assume duties in the absence of the administrator. Participates in administrative call rotation.
Provides leadership, accountability and responsibility for the entire scope of nursing services for MercyOne Dyersville Medical Center. Operational responsibilities include budgeting, strategic planning, patient care management and integration and achievement of organizational goals .Acts as a role model and change agent by initiating and accepting changes for improved patientcare and cost reductions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Collaborates with leaders of MercyOne Dyersville Medical Center Board of Directors, network, management, medical staff, and clinical staff in the hospital-wide decision-making structures and processes including developing, implementing, and reviewing the hospital’s mission, strategic plans, budgets, resource allocations, operating plans, policies, quality assessment and improvement activities and the hospital plan for patient care.
- Serves as the local Nurse Executive working closely with MercyOne, Trinity and MercyOne affiliates. Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates care delivery within nursing and related patient care department, including establishing guidelines for the delivery of care to include standards of nursing practice, standards of patient care, nursing policies and procedures and nurse staffing plans.
- Interacts with hospital peers, medical staff, and management as well as various Network committees and external professional and governmental agencies in addressing the development, implementation and evaluation of systems, programs, services, policies, and procedures that affect the organization and its ability to deliver quality patient care services.
- Develops, implements, and periodically reviews department/organization policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services complying with federal and state regulations. Maintains current knowledge base of trends, policies, regulatory standards, and legislation and advises administration when pertinent.
- Collaborates with other leaders to optimize quality, safety, and patient experience for the organization
- Assists in the preparation of operating and capital budget for responsible departments on an annual basis and monitors compliance with said budgets.
- Supports the Infection Prevention/Quality Assurance Nurse to implement an ongoing program to monitor, evaluate, and improve the quality of care delivered to patients to assure quality among all hospital/organizational services.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates programs to promote the recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education and advancement goals of nursing and patient care providers.
- Implement operational controls to guarantee the effective and efficient use of physical, financial, and human resources within the relevant departments. Ensure that direct reports are held accountable for their assigned duties and responsibilities, including conducting annual performance evaluations for all direct reports.10. Maintain effective communication within the organization as well as community to enhance patient care and to meet organizational objectives.
- Responsible for on-site risk management for the organization, in conjunction with the Risk Management Manger and local CEO. Reviews and files Voice reports, does follow-up as necessary and provides summary to the Safety Committee and/or PAC/Medical Staff each month or as requested.
- Assures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards through active review of departmental compliance with those standards for the organization.
- Leads Evidenced Based Practice initiatives (ensures implementation and ongoing performance).
- Routinely attends and actively participates in the MercyOne Nursing Affinity Groups and Patient Care Team; supports and implements sharing of best practices and system wideinitiatives.
- Reports facility and system performance in quality and safety to Board of Directors
- Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy, and values of MercyOnethe Sisters of Mercy, and Trinity Health.
- Actively participates in community boards/organizations/activities that promote the facility’s mission, philosophy, and values and represent opportunities for furthering the mission.
- Participates in relevant professional organizations and activities.
- Performs other duties as requested/assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Required Education: Required Master’s or Post Graduate Degree
- Required Licensure and Certifications: Current RN license Bachelor’s degree
- Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Clinical Leadership experience is required
- Experience working directly with physicians and APPs is required
- 5 years of experience in health care management is required
PREFERRED Qualifications
- Post graduate degrees in nursing or a related field is preferred or the knowledge and skills associated with an advanced degree; or a written plan to obtain these qualifications.
