Position Summary:

The Director of Seminary Admissions glorifies God, serves the church, and blesses the world by interpreting the seminary programs to the church, and by inviting people to vocational discernment and application to seminary educational programs. The Director has oversight and responsibility for seminary-specific marketing, recruiting, visits, correspondence, admissions, and enrollment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop marketing and messaging for the seminary, gathering input from seminary faculty and staff, stakeholders, and departments such as advancement, university relations, and college admissions
  • Oversee the implementation of messaging including print ads, social media posts, seminary and church-related newsletters, website information and resources
  • In coordination with the dean, moderate the seminary admissions task force three times per semester, and report for the task force in monthly seminary faculty/staff meetings
  • Create and implement strategies for reaching prospective students among various denominational and geographical communities, coordinating faculty and staff contributions
  • In individual conversations or at events, listen to, and speak to, individuals and church entities about vocational call and UDTS programs that align with particular goals
  • Describe in detail, and answer questions, about seminary programs, the student experience, and varied ministry professions
  • Maintain consistent communication by all means with individual or church-related inquirers
  • Coordinate regularly with faculty or other staff who are engaged in seeking prospective students for specific seminary programs or grant-related projects
  • Walk prospective students through the entire application process including transcripts, references, and background checks. Coordinate input from the dean and designated faculty who weigh in on applications and interviews
  • Work in partnership with all seminary staff for enrollment of admitted students to programs, initial classes, and advisor relationships
  • With the dean, create clear job descriptions and supervise any Graduate Assistants who are dedicated to recruitment or church relations
  • Produce status reports monthly on recruiting, enrollment, and strategy implementation for the deans of the seminary and graduate programs, and the seminary faculty and staff
  • Manage the seminary admissions budget, and report on it twice per semester in staff meetings
  • Coordinate with grant directors/coordinators on any grant funds being used for activities related to the seminary admissions office
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University's Mission

Position Skills and Abilities:

  • Capacity to listen to people's expressions of faith and service, and reflect elements of vocational call; Clear articulation and interpretation of the seminary's mission, the seminary experience, and degree and certificate programs
  • Maintenance of responsive and respectful relationships with churches, members, and prospective learners, as well as UD faculty, staff, administration, students, and other departments

  • Knowledge of, or learning about, key constituents served by the seminary, such as the Presbyterian Church USA and the United Methodist Church
  • Communication that is warm, lively and responsive - in writing, print, e-mail, phone, videoconference, social media, public speaking, and interpersonal conversations
  • Administrative skill and faithfulness in maintaining contacts and applications, using tools such as GracCas, Jenzabar, and Salesforce
  • Facility with basic media tools such as Mailchimp, Vista or Canva
  • Create and manage a budget, initiate, track and document expenditures with the business office
  • Some travel required, accounted for with some flex in office scheduling

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree is required in a related field; field of theology preferred
  • Christian faith, and love for God, the church, God's world
  • Active in church life, service experience; ordained experience preferred but not required
  • Commitment to the seminary and university missions
  • Excellence in communication skills
  • Personable, flexible, good sense of humor
  • Ability to develop and carry through projects and reporting
