Job Summary: The Driver Leader - Expedited is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Expedited fleet of drivers to maximize the productivity, utilization, safety, and retention of the fleet. Driver Leaders are also responsible for monitoring Hirschbach operator activity and oversees day-to-day driver service to ensure Hirschbach operators are providing Best in Class service.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Creates and maintains strong business partnerships with all Expedited drivers.
- Communicates with drivers daily. Promptly answers phone calls, emails, and messages.
- Displays an expert level knowledge of Hours of Service Serves.
- Tracks drivers’ performance from dispatch to delivery to ensure on-time services.
- Manages a fleet of trucks to ensure Expedited equipment is getting the maintenance they require to stay in service.
- Updates the Expedited driver schedule accordingly and accurately to maximize productivity of the fleet.
- Responsible for optimizing performance of assigned drivers including on-time pickup and delivery performance, Hours of Service (HOS) compliance, driver availability and scheduling preferences.
- Builds and maintains professional and positive relationships with Hirschbach drivers and operations team members.
- Coach drivers to identify opportunities for improvement and actively provides training/coaching needed to assist drivers in reaching their highest potential and performance.
- Collaborates with the Safety department to ensure drivers are in compliance with all policies and are coached effectively to meet organizational company standards.
- Proactively identify issues that may occur with driver pay by working closely with Driver Payroll.
- Attends meetings related to Expedited and occasionally travels to visit terminal locations.
- Performs other duties as assigned including proactively assisting the Expedited team in achieving the organization’s objectives.
Talent Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent in education, paired with relevant professional experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Transportation/Logistics/Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred.
- One year of transportation experience is required.
- Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy and energy.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
- Demonstrates an "All In to Win" attitude and performances displays self-motivation and a strong desire to learn within an unpredictable and demanding environment.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of Hirschbach operations and how the freight network functions.
- Can actively identify and seek opportunities to manage turnover.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of Hirschbach service standards and monitors the successful performance of assigned drivers or fleet.
- Displays an expert level knowledge of Hours of Service Serves
- Displays an expert level understanding of Hirschbach operations and how the freight network functions.
- Demonstrates expert AS400 proficiencies and can enter data accurately.
- Demonstrates the ability to consistently achieve low deadhead miles to maximize overall profitability.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain professional and positive relationships with Hirschbach operators, operations team members, leadership and customers.
