Overview
Work hours will be days, for 32 hours per pay period, and as needed. There is a rotational call with this position.
The Echocardiogram Technician utilizes ultrasound technology to obtain images of the cardiac system. Images obtained by the Tech measure the performance and functionality of multiple aspects of the heart. This position works closely with physicians in diagnosing problems with the heart and vascular system, as well as promoting cardiovascular health. Echocardiogram Technicians also assist with a multitude of other non-invasive cardiac testing such as 12-lead echocardiograms, stress tests, and external event monitoring initiation.

Responsibilities
Direct Patient Care
- Performs skin preparation and proper lead placement while initiating cardiac monitoring.
- Ensures patient privacy.
- Establishes a climate of mutual respect and trust.
- Communicates effectively with other health care disciplines regarding patient plans of care.
- Speaks clearly and directly to patient.
Patient Education & Support
- Observes ways to increase patient’s function and self-care skills.
- Informs patients of their rights and responsibilities.
- Uses appropriate communication skills & adult learning strategies.
- Involves patient/family in teaching/care.
Safety and Equipment Knowledge
- Assesses need for additional safety measures.
- Verbalizes the appropriate use of equipment.
- Demonstrates proper cleaning and storage of equipment.
- Utilizes proper technique to obtain optimal images.
Quality Improvement
- Participates in departmental validations.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Experience:

At least one (1) year of hospital clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency |
License(s)/Certification(s):

Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer registration (RDCS) with American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or from Cardiac Credentialing International
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
