We currently have an immediate opening for a EHS Manger. This is permanent, full time position. Working hours will be 1st shift but will have to accommodate off-shifts when needed. 

General Description:

Under the direction of the Peosta Plant Director, actively support the plant management team in all aspects of the safety & environmental program with emphasis on the development of a strong H&S culture.

Health & Safety Job Duties/Responsibilities:           

  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations established by the company.
  • Support the implementation at the site level of the organizational health and safety management system (H&SMS).
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the safety and health programs and plans.
  • Conduct and/or support safety trainings for team members, management, sub-contractors at time of new hire orientation as well as ongoing.
  • Chair the site’s safety committee meetings.
  • Support the completion of accident or near miss investigations
  • Implement preventive measures and recommend improvements on the unsafe conditions/materials/equipment encountered during routine course of business.
  • Participate into the update and analysis of all H&S related critical metrics within the organization (BU level).
  • Complete and audit OSHA logs and documentation for completion.
  • Report all injuries requiring medical attention to workers compensation carrier and follow up as needed.
  • Act as the expert during H&S investigations/inquiries made by outside parties i.e. OSHA.  
  • Participate in working meetings with area leads on the development of corrective action plans.
  • Assist in sourcing resources needed for corrective action plans as necessary. 
  • Coordinate with HR the return to work of injured employees.
  • Supervise and support the management of all changes (process change, new equipment, new layout, …) and the accurate risk assessment associated.
  • Develop a system to audit the corrective actions implemented to ensure that these are continuing to meet the goals/objectives.
  • Communicate progress and challenges with applicable stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Maintain required safety and health documents/files.
  • Align with company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as advised by management.

Environmental Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Act as the expert during Environmental investigations/inquiries made by outside parties i.e. IDNR, EPA.
  • Obtain and Maintain permits vital for the operations at the plant.
  • Collect and record data related to emissions from all utilities, services and any associated with currently issued permits.
  • Ensure legal compliance with external agencies as updates are provided.
  • Complete annual reports related to permitting and waste generation as required by outside parties i.e. IDNR, EPA.
  • Conduct monthly testing and reports related to permits with outside parties i.e. IDNR, EPA.
  • Manage and maintain the Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001.
  • Adhere to all environmental rules and regulations established by ISO 14001/45001.
  • Supervise discharge stacks for any signs of pollutants exiting the building.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly audits related to SWPPP and SCPP.
  • Participate into the update and analysis of all Environmental related critical metrics within the organization (BU level).
  • Participate in working meetings with area leads on the development of corrective action plans.
  • Communicate progress and challenges with applicable stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Maintain required Environmental documents/files.
  • Stay in sync with company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as directed by management.

  • Job shop environment.
  • Must be able to work in hot conditions.
  • Must be willing to interact with manufacturing personnel in an industrial setting.
  • Must be willing to arrange schedule to work on off-shifts as vital to accommodate the operations.
  • Forty plus hour work week.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety Engineering, or Occupational Health is required.
  • 10-15 years demonstrated Environmental and safety coordinating and management experience within a manufacturing setting.   
  • Completion of OSHA’s 30-hour general industry course/certification program.
  • Strong analytical, presentation and planning/organization skills.
  • Demonstrated people mobilization competency. 
  • Effective communication skills both speaking and writing with peers, management, employees, and vendors.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Applications - Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook, etc.
  • Demonstrated effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Self-motivated; takes initiative and works with urgency. 
  • Team player: works cooperatively with others to tackle problems and willingly helps others when assistance is needed.
