Contract Field Health and Safety Specialist
Job Summary
The Contract Field Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for conducting routine Health and Safety (H&S) inspections of capital improvement projects as well as 1st Aid, CPR, and AED, respiratory protection training and fit-testing, and hearing conservation training across Canada and the United States.  Moreover, the position serves as an H&S resource and Subject Matter Expert (SME). 
Main Responsibilities
Field Health & Safety Inspections – 50% 
  1. Determine and communicate field health and safety inspections to be performed in the upcoming week based on the capital improvement project scheduled obtained every Friday from client.
  2. Perform field health and safety inspections across Canada and the United States.
  3. Improve the safety culture and mindset of railroaders so that railroad work throughout the craft can go to zero injuries or incidents.
 
Report Writing – 25%
  1. Preparing detailed field health and safety inspection reports that include findings and prioritized recommendations. 
 
Safety Training – 20 %
  1. Perform 1st Aid, CPR and AED Training.
  2. Perform respiratory protection and fit-testing. 
  3. Perform hearing conservation training. 
 
Record Keeping – 5%
  1. Maintain accurate records of employees trained in 1st Aid, CPR, and AED, respiratory protection, and hearing conservation.
  2. Maintain accurate records of employees that have been respiratory fit-tested. 
  3. Maintain accurate records of locations across Canada and the United States to where field health and safety inspections have been conducted. 
Working Conditions
The role is primarily performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions with a flexible workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical situations. The incumbent must be available to work evening shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires travel (up to 75%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.). Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. 
Requirements
Experience
Health and Safety 
  1. Minimum 5 years of experience in railroad or relevant operations and industrial safety
Education/Certification/Designation
  1. Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate in H&S or relevant field*
  2. Certified Safety Professional (CSP)*
*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge
  1. Knowledge of the principles of industrial rail safety 
  2. Thorough knowledge of OSHA 1926 construction and OSHA 1910 general industry regulations
  3. First Aid, CPR & AED certified / trainer 
  4. Knowledge of H&S regulatory requirements
  5. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint 
  6. Bilingual both written and verbal (English, French is a plus)
  7. Ability to learn and respond to the rapid evolution of the industry and new technology
  8. Ability to effectively build relationships
