The Health Unit Assistant (HUA) provides essential administrative and clerical support to ensure smooth operations within a healthcare unit. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The HUA serves as a central point of contact for staff, patients, families, and other departments, assisting with administrative functions, patient flow, and assisting with unit activities.

Responsibilities
- Effectively receive and deliver unit communication - Answer calls promptly and with courtesy, use Vocera to assign and page staff, relay information to other departments, inform charge nurse of unit activities, inform/direct visitors of policies and room locations.
- Arrange to have patients transported to the Operating Room as directed by the operative schedule.
- Carry out the correct procedure for taking specimens to the lab.
- Enter into the computer all daily charges for the pre-operative patients.
- Work collaboratively with Pre-Acess Testing (PAT) and Patient Access to assemble patient charts.
- Print the following day's schedule for department use.
- Maintain an organized environment, keep work areas straightened and stocked, and order supplies.
- Meet customer service standards.
- Utilize computer technology efficiently and appropriately.
- Comply with hospital and unit policies; comply with safety and emergency procedures.
Qualifications
Must possess a High School diploma/GED. Previous clerical and/or health care experience is required. Must be proficient with computers/technology. Excellent customer service experience is required.
