Overview

We are looking for a full-time, HVAC Technician, to join our Maintenance department Work hours will be days, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm, for 80 hours per pay period. This position does have a holiday and weekend rotation.

The HVAC Technician shall be responsible for the safe and efficient operations, installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, routine maintenance and repairs of, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical equipment, i.e., steam boilers, all HVAC systems, all refrigeration systems, emergency generators, utility distribution systems, all chilled water equipment, building automation systems, buildings, plumbing, sanitary, medical gasses, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, nurse call systems and audiovisual equipment (televisions, VCR’s, etc.). This role performs skills work of considerable technical difficulty on mechanical and electrical equipment or systems and or the building structures in the skilled trades categories and assists and trains others.

Responsibilities

Technical Tasks

  • Perform high level technical troubleshooting on equipment, utilizing O & M Manuals, diagrams, and technical support from manufacturers.
  • In situations requiring outside contractors, works with contractors to assist them in working efficiently, while learning details about the systems involved.
  • Perform regularly scheduled advanced Preventive Maintenance procedures on assigned equipment.
    • Completes 100% of Compliance PM's within the month they are assigned.
  • Self-assigns and completes work requests which require higher level of skill from routine requests. May be assigned work requests by Manager as appropriate.

Departmental Support/Leadership

  • Acts as resident troubleshooter in support of Maintenance Technicians.
  • Trains Maintenance Technicians in proper maintenance of their assigned equipment.
  • Makes themselves available by telephone to assist Maintenance Technicians with troubleshooting issues on shifts other than those assigned.

Administrative Tasks

  • Utilizes WebTMA system to enter records of work completed; enters details of work performed.
  • Utilizes computers extensively for reference in performing duties. Capable of effective web searches for information, review of online manuals, online drawings etc.
  • Extensive use of systems: email, RL Incident Reporting & Kronos for timekeeping.
  • Identifies parts and supplies needed, places orders and documents such orders for the AP process.
  • Attends continuing education events as appropriate to role and approved.

Compliance and Quality

  • Keeps informed through periodicals, books training seminars, on-the-job training and other sources and participate in approved training programs to further job knowledge.
  • May serve on committees and work groups for problem solving and process improvement.
  • In some situations may inspect work of other staff and contractors, reporting deficiencies up through the Manager or the Director of Planning, Design and Construction for correction.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Associate’s Degree or Trade School Diploma in technical field.

Documentable attendance at seminars and training sessions, approximately 1 per year of experience minimum.

Bachelors in related field.

Documentable attendance at seminars and training sessions within the healthcare industry, approximately 1 per year of experience minimum.

Experience:

7 years’ experience in highly technical role and ability to work independently.

Prior experience in highly technical role within a healthcare environment.

License(s)/Certification(s):

One or combination of:

  • Licensed HVAC Tech
  • Universal CFC Certified

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.

Proficient with Bluebeam.

Expert level skills with Word, Excel, Outlook.

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
