Reports to: Facility & Maintenance Manager   

Date: October 27, 2023 

Summary/Objective 

The Industrial Custodian will take care of our facility and carry out cleaning and maintenance through maintaining a clean plant in common areas primarily focused on floors and grounds. The goal is to keep our facility in a clean and orderly condition to maximize safety and provide a welcoming environment for our employees and customers. This position will report directly to our Facility and Maintenance Manager and will assist as needed for cleaning projects and some material handling in machining if needed.

Essential Functions 

  • Complete tasks and conduct behaviors consistent with promoting a standard of excellence. 
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report any unsafe situations to management or human resources.  
  • In-person, on-site, predictable attendance and punctuality in alignment with the position’s scheduled hours. 
  • Clean and supply designated building areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning, etc)
  • Maintains and cleans all exterior areas to comply with Environmental guidelines.
  • Utilizes and maintains all floor cleaning equipment (Mobile scrubbers, sweepers, and hand tools)
  • Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Carry out heavy cleansing tasks and special projects.
  • Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs.
  • Clean and maintain all areas of the shop and office area.
  • Assist with setting up of facilities for meetings.
  • Wash and maintain equipment and machines.
  • Assist with snow removal, lawn care, and general property maintenance.
  • Communicate with the Facility & Maintenance Manager about equipment and facility needs.
  • Performs trash, recycling, and scrap removal and transports to disposal/storage area.
  • Provides light maintenance duties, such as painting, filling of machine oils, etc.
  • Assists in organizing and maintaining storage areas; inventories, cleaning supplies, and materials; notifies Manager of low levels.
  • Set up chairs and tables for meetings and special occasions.
  • Reports to Management any mechanical failures or hazardous conditions.
  • May assist in basic material handling as needed.
  • Follows general safety and housekeeping standards. Makes recommendations to Management on how to improve the cleanliness of the site.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and ensure work area and equipment are properly maintained to provide a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. 
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required. 

Competencies 

Basic mechanical skills, excellent attendance, positive attitude, dependable, strong work ethic, works well with others, familiarity with Safety Data Sheets. Ability to choose proper PPE, integrity and ability to work independently,  

Physical Requirements 

  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.  
  • Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions.  
  • Use of hands and arms to touch, lift, reach, grip, and grasp.  
  • Talking and hearing frequently.  
  • Frequently exposed to production floor elements such as noise, dust, fumes, odors, and heat  

Medium Work: Lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds frequently, occasionally up to 50 pounds.   

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education development (GED) required
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • 3 years Custodial experience
