Grand River Medical Group is seeking an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to work within our Integrated Cancer Center to deliver high-quality care to our Oncology patients. As an Infusion Nurse, you will be responsible for administering IV and SQ chemotherapy, drawing lab work, rooming patients, triaging phone calls and other duties as assigned to provide high-quality, patient centered care.
The ideal candidate would possess robust nursing skills and the ability to work efficiently. You must be committed to working in a fast-paced environment and have strong organizational skills. You will also need to be a team player and work closely with the receptionist, clinicians, and all other members of the care team. Each day will be a learning experience and a different day than the day before.
This is a full-time position, 36-40 hours per week. This position is typically 4 days per week with no nights, weekends or holidays. All nursing positions have the ability to pick up shifts at other clinic locations as desired. The Integrated Cancer Center is typically open from 7:00am-5:00pm.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Triage and prioritize phone calls based on standards of care and best practice. Send telephone encounters to the primary care/on-call clinician.
- Provide nursing care by using the nursing process and nursing theory in assessing patient's general condition and in making clinical decisions.
- Monitor drug therapy and identify drug-related problems such as drug-drug interaction, adverse reactions; take appropriate steps to resolve drug related problems.
- Assess patient and family learning needs. Providing patient educational materials, communicating physician's advice and instructions to the patient and/or family based on the teaching plan to meet the needs of the patient and family. Assess the patient and family understanding of the instructions and information. Provide or participate in learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of the patient.
- Administer various therapies such as intravenous antibiotics, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or blood products via a patient vein or peripherally inserted central catheters.
- Assist the clinicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Demonstrate ability to perform and assist with clinical procedures which may include, but not limited to: PAP tests, spirometry, EKG, hemoccults, wound dressings, breathing treatments, bone marrow biopsies, phlebotomy, administer O-2, insert and remove female and male catheters, culture throats and wounds, ear irrigation, incisions and treatments, minor surgical procedures and pulse oximetry.
- Provide direct patient care as required.
- Accurately administer medications orally, IM, sub-q and IV.
- Mix sterile products, appropriately record entries and review IV administration records. Maintain competence in good manufacturing practices and sterile technique that are in compliance with USP regulations.
- Triage phone calls and nurse visits for the assigned department. Nurse visits include, but not limited to immunization and therapeutic injections.
- Manage outgoing faxes of patients' medical records to nursing homes, pharmacies, schools, and other healthcare organizations.
- Draw blood for laboratory specimens according to protocol as needed.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing for Registered Nurses.
- Minimum one year of professional nursing experience required; clinic experience preferred.
- Must be a licensed RN with an active license to practice in the state of Iowa; BSN preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification - preferred.
- Mandatory Report Certification - required.
