Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for clinician office visit: greet and escort patient to exam room, obtain vitals, update medications and allergies in the electronic medical record. Explain procedures appropriate to visit.
- Triage and prioritize phone calls based on standards of care and best practice. Send telephone encounters to the primary care/on-call clinician.
- Provide nursing care by using the nursing process and nursing theory in assessing patient’s general condition and in making clinical decisions.
- Monitor drug therapy and identify drug-related problems such as drug-drug interaction, adverse reactions; take appropriate steps to resolve drug related problems.
- Administer various therapies such as intravenous antibiotics and iron replacement therapy via a patient vein or peripherally inserted central catheters.
- Accurately administer medications orally, IM, sub-q and IV.
- Draw blood for laboratory specimens according to protocol as needed.
- Communicate patient test results and return phone calls in a timely manner.
- Triage phone calls and nurse visits for the assigned department. Nurse visits include, but not limited to immunization and therapeutic injections.
Qualifications
Education
Meets educational/competency requirements per policy.
License(s)/Certification(s)
Current Iowa/Illinois/Wisconsin license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
CPR certification.
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
