Primary Location: United States (US) - Iowa - Dubuque
As an Industrial Electrician Apprentice with John Deere Dubuque Works, you will:
Under the guidance and supervision of experienced Industrial Electricians, the Industrial Electrician Apprentice lays out, installs, modifies and maintains complex electrical circuits, electrical and electronic equipment.
The apprentice progressively develops technical skills and diagnostic abilities while working toward journey-level proficiency.
With training and supervision, the apprentice will learn to use electrical testing equipment, electrician’s hand and power tools of all types, pipe benders, hoist, tape, soldering equipment, etc.
Job Details are dependent on duties assigned and training progression, but generally include:
- Assists with work from wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, prints, sketches, and verbal instructions
- Learns standard electrical symbols used for power, control, and measurement circuits
- Supports planning of work sequences and selection of materials and tools
- Assists with installation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems and circuits
- Learns proper methods for balancing loads and wiring multi-unit circuits
- Assists with troubleshooting electrical issues under supervision, including exposure to higher-voltage systems as training allows
- Supports installation and maintenance of motors, generators, lighting, transformers, switches, control panels, automatic controls, and related equipment
- Performs routine equipment care, including lubrication and cleaning
- Maintains a safe and organized work environment.
Training & Development
- Structured on-the-job training provided with progressive exposure to advanced electrical systems and troubleshooting
- Apprenticeship completion at a minimum of 8,000 hours, with progressive wage increases dependent on performance and demonstrated ability
- Opportunity to advance toward journeyman Industrial Electrician status upon successful completion of apprenticeship requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have at least one of the following:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
- At least 3 years of manufacturing work experience
- Enrollment in or willingness to pursue an AAS degree in Industrial Electrician or a related electrical trade program.
- Ability to perform manual tasks related to described job duties for duration of work shift; including but not limited to frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and performing of repetitive actions.
- Ability and willingness to work any shift and potential overtime (including weekends).
