The Sisters of the Presentation in Dubuque, IA are looking for a Justice Promoter to join our team and help advance the mission and priorities related to justice, peace and care of Earth.
Who We Are:
We are a community of women religious and associates committed to living our charism of radical hospitality in response to the cry of women and children made poor, our wounded Earth and all creation. We are part of the International Presentation Association (IPA) whose mission is “to speak and act in partnership with others for global justice from a contemplative stance in a spirit of oneness with the whole of creation”.
Purpose:
The primary responsibility of the Promoter of Justice Office is to educate and animate sisters and associates on issues of justice, peace and care of Earth. The promoter will be guided by the call of the Gospel, Catholic Social Teaching and the justice commitments of the 2022 Chapter.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the work of the Justice Promoter Committee and the Laudato Si Committee, serving as a resource as they discern and prioritize justice issues
- Collaborate and support sisters, associates and other like-minded individuals and organizations in activities promoting justice, peace and integrity of creation
- Develop educational materials on current issues of justice, peace, and care of creation and effectively communicate these materials to internal and external audiences
- Provide training and guidance in advocacy
- Serve as IPA Justice Contact
- Cooperate with IPA and translate IPA goals to doable actions
- Work internally with associates and other community-focused groups such as vocation/formation
- Be available for networking and collaboration with other inter-congregational organizations, locally and regionally
- Develop timely statements according to congregational justice concerns
- Other duties as assigned
- Report to the leadership quarterly or as requested
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree and/or experience in a field pertinent to the responsibilities of the position
- Must be grounded in non-violence and have a passion for justice, peace and care of the Earth
- Able to guide study programs toward the development of corporate stances and other areas of justice focus such as Laudato Si
- Willingness to know and understand the community’s charism of radical hospitality
- Effective communication skills (written, verbal, social media) required in order to articulate and promote the justice agenda
- Experience in utilizing social media platforms in order to support the mission of the community
- A team player who is able to collaborate and engage others to implement impactful justice, peace and care of creation initiatives
- Skills in social analysis, facilitation and advocacy
- Organizational skills
