Dubuque Fire Equipment, Inc. is seeking dependable individuals to join our Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in a job well done, and doesn't mind working flexible hours. No prior kitchen exhaust cleaning experience is required—we provide paid training.
Job Responsibilities
- Inspect, clean, and maintain commercial kitchen exhaust systems in accordance with NFPA 96 standards.
- Clean complete kitchen exhaust systems, including hoods, ductwork, access panels, filters, and exhaust fans.
- Safely set up and operate all equipment required for the cleaning process.
- Complete service documentation after each assignment, including work performed, deficiencies found, and recommended repairs.
- Document completed work by submitting before-and-after photographs for each service.
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude while representing the company.
- Drive company vehicles to and from job sites.
- Work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, overnights, and occasional mid-day shifts.
Qualifications & Requirements
General Requirements
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record (REQUIRED).
- Must be insurable under company insurance.
- This position requires driving company vehicles. To meet company insurance requirements, applicants must be eligible for coverage and may not require an SR-22 filing.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Reliable transportation to and from our shop location.
- Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Good communication skills with customers and management.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools.
- Previous experience with commercial kitchens, restaurants, fast food, or kitchen exhaust systems is preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Comfortable climbing ladders and accessing rooftops to clean exhaust fans.
- Comfortable working at heights.
- Able to work outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions.
- Must be comfortable performing physically demanding work and getting dirty.
(Washer, dryer, and shower facilities are available for employee use.)
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
Training
Paid on-the-job training is provided and is typically completed within 30 days (up to 90 days depending on scheduling and individual progress).
Pay
- Starting Pay: $17.00 per hour
- After Successful Completion of the 90-Day Probationary Period and Training: Up to $18.00 per hour
- Additional Performance-Based Raises: Up to $19.00+ per hour
Employment Type
This position is primarily part-time, with opportunities for full-time hours based on workload and seasonal demand.
Company vehicles are provided for transportation from our shop to the job site and back.
Company uniform options are available after 30 days of employment.
Typical Shift Times
- Early Morning: 4:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Mid-Day: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Evening/Overnight: 6:00 PM – 4:00 AM
Most jobs are scheduled when restaurants are closed or during their slower business hours. Shift schedules vary based on customer needs.
