Job Overview

The individual is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of manufacturing machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. This individual will be running the sheet and tube laser and possibly forklifts, combis, hoists, banders, pallet jacks, CNC machines, and a variety of power and hand tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setting up and operating a variety of manufacturing machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments.
  • Selecting the appropriate tools, machines and materials to be used in preparation of manufacturing machinery work.
  • Ensuring the right program is chosen for the particular job.
  • Calculating dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Cleaning machine and scrap bins
  • Performing maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Loading sheets of metal into the laser using a vacuum hoist.
  • Unloading cut parts and using instruments to debur and clean parts.
  • Ensuring the part meets the quality expectations and it is within the tolerances of the particular part.
  • Making custom parts for repair of current equipment.
  • Adhering to all safety rules and OSHA regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Working with blueprints, drawings, and engineering information
  • Lasers including designing issues and maintenance
  • Machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Gauges, micrometers, and calipers
  • Design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production planning, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Identifying causes of operating errors and deciding what to do through troubleshooting
  • Determining the tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Safety compliance-particularly Lock out/Tag Out procedures - Adhere to safety and OSHA regulations
  • Programming, setting up, and operating lasers
  • Producing parts and components from drawings and specifications
  • Reading and following written and verbal instructions

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to read and follow blueprints, interpret drawings, and read a tape measure.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Training Needs: Continuous training in machine operation, company production, and safety policies and procedures.

The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. In addition to the lifting, the job requires various carrying, pushing/pulling, kneeling, crawling, and squatting.
