McGraw-Hill Education, the leading provider of digital and print educational materials, is looking for experienced, innovative, strategic Manager, Academic Design focused on grades K-2 mathematics programs. Does this sound like you?

 

As part of our PreK-12 business, you’ll be part of a team that creates high quality content, robust learning solutions, and innovative print and digital components that are used by millions of educators and students every day.

 

Reporting to the Director, Academic Design, the Manager, Academic Designer for Elementary K-2 Math will assist in managing the Elementary Math Academic department. The manager is responsible for the training and work quality of a team of content and curriculum editors who are responsible and accountable for developing effective content solutions and products that meet the curriculum standards and market requirements for math educational materials.


Your contribution to the team includes:

  • Work closely with the Director and the VP of Academic Design to execute multi-year publishing plans. Tasks include but are not limited to:
    • developing cost estimates and resource plans to meet the development needs of the products,
    • ensuring all content developed meets highest standards of academic integrity and quality, and
    • working with cross-functional teams to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget constraints.
  • Work closely with the Director, cross-functional teams, and individual project leads, to help develop prototypes and guidelines for solutions aligned to relevant market requirements, product definitions, learning objectives and content standards.
  • Understand the implications of customer and sales deadlines, state curriculum requirements, and budget and resource limitations on workflow and schedule.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop the best workflow, assign appropriate resources, and schedule milestones for program needs.
  • Work closely with the Director to forecast and manage program budgets, identifying issues that impact cost, quality, and schedules.
  • Empower staff through professional development opportunities; work to enhance and extend the department’s content knowledge, classroom and pedagogical awareness, and digital and instructional design knowledge; builds leadership capabilities at all levels within the department, develop and retains talent, increase diversity, and communicate goals and performance improvement needs effectively.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of the competitive environment, including a focus on digital technology. 

This position can work remotely within the continental United States but can also be based in one of our McGraw Hill offices.  

 

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Math pedagogical and content knowledge. Knowledge of appropriate industry and subject-area content development practices, content standards, and academic and pedagogical trends, with the ability to drive innovation in teams and products. At least 5 years of experience in math curriculum and educational publishing. Experience with print and digital as well as basal core curriculum is preferred.
  • Communication and Collaboration. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills. Interact with and make presentations to cross-functional leaders in the math portfolio with confidence and credibility. Proactively communicate outcomes to peers, management, and stakeholders. Provides clear expectations and feedback to vendors and project partners.
  • Leadership. Be proactive, goal-oriented, and collaborative while leading multi-person teams, working both cross-functionally and hierarchically. Build strong relationships with individuals at all levels. Value employees who think and act differently; encourage open discussion of problems and differences of opinion resulting in engaged, autonomous employees. Show employees how their work contributes to broader math portfolio goals. Demonstrate a calm demeanor and presence, handle difficult situations constructively and tactfully, and proactively address conflicts that affect team effectiveness.
  • Focus on Results. Effectively prioritize work and assign resources across internal staff and external vendors, including clear goal setting and performance management, to deliver accurate, error-free, high-quality work in a fast-paced and fluid environment. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills. Build program budgets, allocate resources, and negotiate tradeoffs among various resource and cost options. Manage vendors and oversee budgets and work plans.

Bachelor’s Degree in math or a math-related area is required; Classroom teaching experience is preferred.

The pay range for this position is between $72,000 - $85,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
