Lead Phlebotomist
Position is for the Multi-Specialty Clinic location
Grand River Medical Group is seeking a motivated and dependable Lead Phlebotomist. You will be performing venipunctures and obtaining urine specimens from patients. Duties will also include training new phlebotomy and receptionist staff, providing onsite problem-solving assistance, and assisting with scheduling.
The ideal candidate would possess robust phlebotomy skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment. You will provide an exceptional patient experience while exemplifying empathy and respect to patients and co-workers. You will be a team player and work closely with the receptionists, phlebotomists, clinicians, and all other members of the care team.
This is a full-time position, typically 5 days per week, with no evening or weekend requirements. Grand River Medical Group's Multi-Specialty Clinic lab is typically open from 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Monitor phlebotomy supplies and order as needed.
- Triage day to day concerns/issues relating to lab staff. Provide onsite problem-solving assistance to lab staff having problems with paperwork, draws and/or other work processes. Research and work to resolve issues.
- Communicate with department manager to provide input and feedback on any concerns or issues regarding lab staff and lab area.
- Assist the department manager with the monthly staff schedule.
- Assist with the orientation and training of new phlebotomists and department receptionists.
- Perform venipunctures and obtain urine specimens; requires use of close vision. Monitor the identification, processing, transportation of specimens to ensure specimen integrity.
- Perform therapeutic phlebotomies. Instruct patients in collection of 24-hour urine specimen.
- Verify patient information (name, date of birth, address) and insurance information from the practice management system.
- Review lab orders, encounters and documents in the electronic medical record.
- Assist patient before, during and after specimen collection.
- Answer the telephone, take messages and provide routine laboratory information.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Minimum two to three years related experience and/or training required.
