Your Responsibilities

As a Machining Engineer for John Deere Dubuque Works located in Dubuque, IA, you will: 

  • Establish routings, methods, layouts, tools, costs, methods documentation (OMS), quality plans and labor standards (MPPlanner) for revisions to current operations and/or new parts or programs.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting for machining operations.
  • Investigate quality issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify cost reduction, quality, safety, and ergonomic improvement ideas and follows thru to implementation.
  • Ability to program and instruct on the use of Machining equipment.

Additionally, you will need...

  • Lead and actively participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) - improving departmental Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Delivery through data driven proactive projects.
  • Analyze, specify, procure, and implement production tooling and fixtures for new and existing processes.
  • Define and implement layout changes necessary for new product introduction into fabrication.
  • Communicate changes to peers and welders, and conduct training as required.

What Skills You Need

  • 2 or more years of Machining experience
  • Firsthand skill in programming machining equipment
  • Mechanical aptitude in working with machine tooling.
  • Experience being an effective member of a multi-disciplined, cross functional team.
  • Project management skills and demonstrated execution skills.

Additional skills you should have...

  • Analytical skills to determine welding related cycle times and costs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality planning and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be an initiative-taker with the ability to execute a variety of tasks with little supervision
  • Proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Siemens programming expertise
  • Proficiency in MPPlanner, VisView, Vis Mockup and Creo (Pro-E)
  • Knowledge of standard quality tools, such as: FMEA, Root Cause Analysis and Statistics
  • Analytical skills in Statistical Process Control for dimensional integrity of weldments.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and/or distribution processes, quality, tooling, tool design, total preventative maintenance, and facilities
  • Experience with line and process design, material presentation, cycles of imbalance and visual management tools
  • Experience with shop floor manufacturing, incentive pay systems and work measurement

Education Details

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology

The John Deere Dubuque Works is one of the key facilities in Deere & Company's Construction and Forestry (C&F) Division. The Dubuque Works manufactures backhoe loaders, crawler dozers, and skid steer loaders for the construction industry and knuckleboom loaders and tracked feller bunchers for the forestry industry.  The Dubuque Works also serves as the Center of Excellence for the C&F Division in the areas of Product Engineering, Product Verification and Validation, Supply Management, and Product Support which includes the Dealer Technical Assistance Center.  From a manufacturing perspective, the core competencies of the factory include plate and sheet cutting, machining, welding, paint, and assembly.
