Overview

We are looking for a full-time Manager of Cardiovascular Services to join our team. Work hours will be days, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with the ability to flex to other shifts as needed, for 80 hours per pay period.

Responsible for daily operations of the assigned cardiovascular departments utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles. Demonstrates the attributes of Servant Leadership, communicates exceptionally, and motivates others to achieve outcomes through work with multidisciplinary teams. Serves as chief recruitment and retention officer for the departments and works in collaboration with service line leadership to identify areas of improvement regarding practice, policies and processes. Collaborates with physicians/offices and other health care workers. Demonstrates effective leadership skills and role models UnityPoint FOCUS values. Manages and/or assigns appropriate personnel to operate the day-to-day workflow. In advance; reviews schedule and then effectively communicates with the teams to ensure correct instruments, supplies and staffing requirements are met. Successful performance of these expectations will contribute to an increase in quality care, patient/family satisfaction and positive department outcome measurements.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Directs staff in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures and programs. Adheres to governmental regulations.
  • Recommends annual goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for the overall staffing of the unit to including hiring, onboarding, facilitation of orientation program and training of newly hired team members, and team member performance management.
  • Reviews/reassigns patient assignments based on assignment workload manager, continuity and skill level of the team member. Coordinates scheduling and maintains appropriate staffing levels and effectively communicates with others to ensure staffing requirements are met.
  • Coordinates staff education/in-services/specialized skilled training programs including competences.
  • Responsible for effectively resolving complex unit situations, such as patient complaints and crises as they occur within the unit.

Employee Development

  • Evaluates and guides staff through coaching and provides immediate feedback and responds to difficult inquiries and problems. Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures.
  • Provides feedback and input to team members for ongoing performance management.
  • Completes and issues performance evaluations. Responsible for team member rounding.

Performance Improvement

  • Responsible for performance improvement action plans and implementation of plans, monitoring of supplies/distribution and chart audits. Completes appropriate reports as assigned.
  • Responsible for all budget aspects of department. Reports all variances in budget with justification to appropriate individuals.
  • Identifies and coordinates process improvements.
  • Ensures proper communications and plans are coordinated with other departments.

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Recognize the needs of patients and families.
  • Delivers high quality care within the scope of licensure while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients within the scope of licensure.
  • Assist with direct patient care and staffing needs in emergent situations.
  • Manages up nursing specific questions, competencies and processes to service line director if not an RN.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Education:

RN or RT(R) with minimum 4 years interventional cardiovascular experience.

Bachelor’s Degree

Specialty certification

Experience:

3-5 years knowledge and expertise in caring for cardiovascular patients.

Previous leadership experience

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current license in the state of Iowa as a RN or RT(R).

Specialty certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Ability to direct others and to exercise judgment in problem-solving scenarios.

· Ability to lead and/or participate in multidisciplinary teams.

· Must possess a broad and varied knowledge base that is continually enhanced and updated through self-directed study and participation in educational opportunities.

· Must possess knowledge of performance improvement and quality standards.

· Must possess knowledge of The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
