Job Overview

Come and work for a company that continues to grow and flourish and where our people make a difference. McDonald Plastic Molding is a subsidiary of A.Y. McDonald. A.Y. McDonald is a privately owned company founded in 1856. People join our business (and stay) because of our collaborative workplace, drive for innovation and our family-oriented culture. We are a custom injection molding company known for producing high quality products that meet the needs of our demanding customers.

McDonald Plastic Molding is looking for a Material Handler on first shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Obtain correct Lot Number and document it according to procedures.
  • To follow established procedures for the proper handling and storage of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products.
  • To be able to figure proper mixture by weight when using concentrates.
  • Work to reduce material losses from spillage or improper mixes.
  • To have the ability to tabulate usage of material by figuring total pounds needed for each job as listed on the bill of materials.
  • Bring out required materials for upcoming jobs or samples and have them pre-dried, AT RECOMMENDED TIMES and HEATS, and ready to go. To properly sign out those items from inventory.
  • To have a full and complete knowledge of all materials used by Non-Metallic Components. To make sure material is always properly marked, in drum mixes, hopper dryers, ovens and drums heading back to the warehouse.
    • GAYLORDS - Remove buckets, scoops, or whatever is used to get material out of gaylord. Close liner, twist tight, and wire tie, put lid on.
    • BARRELS - All materials except, polypropylene, styrene, and polystyrene should be put in a barrel, with a liner, twist liner shut, and wire tie. If material will fit in a bucket fine, no liner is       In reality anything dried for 2-4 hours before it can be ran.  Having this done this way will save extra drying time and changing material because of contamination.  All mixing barrels at machine must be described in detail what is in the barrel.  This information has to be transferred to whatever goes to the warehouse, when a job is done.
    • BOXES - Break all material boxes down inside the plant and make sure all plastic is out of them before taking to warehouse to stack. Break lids and all boxes down flat so they stack. Sweep material up immediately so no one falls and gets hurt.  If material is spilled anywhere sweep it up immediately before doing anything else.
    • COMMUNICATION - It is very important, how little it seems, to explain to the material handler following you, every job requirement. This will avoid the many over mixes we have in the warehouse.  On a large job for instance, 50 lbs. is a maximum over mix amount that should be left to put back into inventory.  20 lbs. to 30 lbs. on small jobs.  I believe if everyone communicates better this problem can be resolved and make life easier for all of us.
  • General clean-up of machines and equipment including:
    • The cleaning of grinders in designated area.
    • Cleaning of hoppers.
    • Air hoses may be used to clean up machines only after all auxiliary equipment, grinders, and hoppers have been cleaned and moved out of the area. Use good judgment.
    • Cleaning of dryer filters in designated areas for each job.
    • Clean up of barrels and lids that were used.
    • Dump waste barrels as needed (DO NOT OVER FILL)
    • When a mold is set up a complete clean-up of that machine, extra equipment and the general area is to be performed.
    • Materials are to be put away and stored in the proper areas, assist with storage of equipment as needed.
  • Stage break periods so machinery is not left idle. This may require an early or late break.
  • To assist with cleaning and greasing molds and machines throughout the shift (minimum of 2 times per shift), minor adjustments or startups, help or assist with mold and auxiliary set-up when time permits, to insure safe, efficient operations as directed by shift supervisor
  • To operate the fork-lift as required.
  • Report problems, needs, and equipment break-downs to your supervisor so it can be corrected.
  • To accurately complete all record keeping forms.
  • When required, to perform any job in a lower rated classification that is necessary to support plant operations safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in secondary work as needed and as time permits:
    • Assemble, print, sort, drill or gauge parts.
    • Give breaks.
    • Operator on a machine.
  • Spend adequate time before and after each shift to ensure all information gets properly passed onto oncoming shifts.
  • Be available to work overtime as needed.
  • If something doesn’t seem quite right question it and report it to your supervisor immediately.
  • To adhere to all company policies regarding conduct, safety practices, and job performance.

Strategic planning for the growth and success of Non-Metallic Components.

  • Participate in-group and individual training.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner while supporting and encouraging the company’s safety culture.
  • Determine personal strengths and delegate workload that best fits each individual.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment.
  • Perform all job duties with a positive, collaborative, and encouraging attitude.

Perform other duties as required or directed by management.
